Ajax vs Excelsior Prediction & Betting tips
Ajax and Excelsior conclude this midweek round in the Eredivisie. The team from Amsterdam managed to win 3-0 in the PSV’s own Johan Cruijff Arena on Sunday and then a home match against Excelsior should not cause any problems for Ajax either?
Ajax :
Honor who is due: Marcel Keizer has shown on Sunday against PSV that he can actually make tactical decisions. The Ajax coach was fully criticized in recent months and actually only after Feyenoord-out (1-4 victory for the team from Amsterdam) Keizer was not under a magnifying glass with the public and the media. The criticism of Keizer was mainly that he was tactically often defeated against the coach of the opposing team and the Ajax coach took almost four months to find his regular base team.
On Sunday against leader PSV everything fell into place and that resulted in a 3-0 victory over the Eindhoven team. The visitors from Brabant had Derrick Luckassen an extra defender in the base to start and Keizer decided to tackle that with the deployment of Frenkie de Jong as a defender. De Jong moved on to midfield, however, and that did ensure that Matthijs de Ligt often came in one against one situation with PSV striker Luuk de Jong, but the team from Amsterdam always had the field superiority in the midfield. Whereas Keizer did not dare to start against flyers earlier this season in a 3-4-3 set-up he did so against the visitors from Eindhoven and the system with a sliding defender was also good at Matthijs de Ligt: ‘Everyone says it is suicide, but you are one on one and you have to win duels. If you do that, you’ll play them off the mat. ”
Due to the 3-0 victory of the Ajax players on the Eindhoven team, the tension is back in the Eredivisie. Although Ajax still has seven points behind the team from Eindhoven and the team from Amsterdam have three points less than AZ, they play against it on Sunday, but Ajax has shown that PSV is not intolerable this season. It is a matter for the team from Amsterdam to no longer waste any points until the winter break, because otherwise that victory on PSV is of course for nothing. Keizer has to face Excelsior without the suspended Lasse Schöne and so there will be some changes in the Amsterdam base team.
Excelsior :
At Excelsior they preferred that the away match against Ajax had been scheduled at another time. The Kralingers can use a bit of confidence and the Johan Cruijff Arena does not seem to be the right place to refuel. Excelsior lost the last four games in the Eredivisie and the gap that the Kralingers had built up during the first months of the season compared to the relegation places thus shrank by the week.
Last weekend, the Kralingers in their own stadium went against PEC Zwolle. Mitchell van der Gaag saw his team still take the lead against the Zwollenaren by a utilized penalty from Mike van Duinen, but the 1-0 was less than a minute on the scoreboard and the Swollenaren had already made the equalizer. After over an hour Younes Namli made the 1-2 on behalf of the visitors from Zwolle and so Excelsior went down for the eighth time this season in the league. Incidentally, Van der Gaag passed PEC Zwolle Ögmundur Kristinsson as goalkeeper, but Theo Zwarthoed also did not look good in the 1-2 of the Zwollenaren and now Van der Gaag will have to stick to the 35-year old Volendammer.
