VVV-Venlo vs Excelsior Prediction & Betting tips
The VVV-Venlo, which is in a dramatic form, will be visited by Excelsior on Saturday evening. Prior to game round 25, the gap between the numbers ten and fourteen of the Premier League is only three points. Who will take three important points to stay away from the relegation zone?
VVV Venlo:
As stable as VVV-Venlo looked out for the winter break, Maurice Steijn’s team looks insecure in 2019. The first game of the calendar year was won (2-4 at ADO Den Haag), in the following six league matches the Limburgers lost no less than five times. The most recent defeat was visiting the revived FC Groningen. In the north of the country, VVV suffered a 3-2 loss. The opening goal of Danny Post was not enough to achieve a good result in Groningen.
The match slipped away from the Limburgers after a direct red card for Moreno Rutten. After a hard offense against Groningen player Tim Handwerker and intervention by the VAR, the right back had to take hold. That happened at a score of 1-1. With ten men, the VVV no longer succeeded in making a fist against the Groningers. Peniel Mlapa was still able to use a penalty, but could not prevent that so-called 3-2 was lost.
In addition, news came this week about a replacement for the heavily injured Jerold Promes. The 34-year-old central defender is probably sidelined at least until 2020 with a severe knee injury, so VVV felt compelled to attract a replacement. Josimar Lima, former player of, among others, Willem II and FC Emmen, has signed a contract until the end of the season in Venlo.
Excelsior:
Last weekend Excelsior did not succeed in providing the leader PSV with a surprise. After the victory over Feyenoord (2-1) of a few weeks ago, there seemed to be a good result against the faltering PSV. The Kralingers were, however, easily defeated by the reigning champion of the Premier League. Captain Ryan Koolwijk was not there because of a suspension and saw from the stands that his team did not have the chance to create any opportunities in the Van Donge & De Roo Stadium. In fact, only one shot on goal was scored from the home team in 90 minutes.
Because of the defeat against PSV, the series of home victories has come to an end. In the previous three home matches, Excelsior kept the three runs in Kralingen each time. From the end of January successively De Graafschap (2-0), Feyenoord and FC Emmen (2-1) were defeated.
Excelsior, despite that revival in his own home, is by no means certain of Eredivisie football next season. Adrie Poldervaart’s team only has two points ahead of number sixteen FC Emmen and knows that theoretically, after this round of play, it can fall under the degradation line.
