West Brom vs Hull Prediction & Betting tips
In November of the previous calendar year, Hull City was 1-0 too strong for West Brom. A few months later both teams are still fighting for a play-off ticket. Who takes the three points, the number four or the number nine in the Championship?
West Bromwich Albion:
After two consecutive defeats, West Bromwich Albion has its back against Preston North End. The losses at Millwall (2-0) and Bristol City (3-2) seemed to put fourth place at risk. The gap with Aston Villa was reduced to four points and so there was no loss in Preston. That was not done, thanks to an outstanding Dwight Gayle. The star player of The Baggies made a nice hat trick and led West Brom whistling to a 4-1 win over The Lilywhites. The fourth goal came in the name of Jay Rodriguez, his partner at the forefront.
While West Brom is still in the process of securing the ticket for the play-offs, there is still a battle going on between Rodriguez and Gayle. After 42 matches, the two English internationals are both exactly on 21 goals. Together the duo accounts for more than half of West Brom’s goals this season (81). Becoming the top scorer of the Championship no longer seems possible, but the honor of scoring the most goals for The Baggies is still there.
West Brom itself is in fourth place with four games to play and has a nine-point lead over number seven Middlesbrough. With a much better goal balance than Boro, a win over Hull City on Friday afternoon will be enough to qualify for the playoffs. Obtaining the most favorable position in the play-offs will then become the goal of the team of James Shan.
Hull City:
Hull City also has the chance to qualify for the play-offs in the remainder of the season. The Tigers are ninth, but still have a small chance of conquering Bristol City in sixth place. The gap now amounts to five points and could theoretically still be eliminated in the last four games of the Championship season. On the last day of play, 5 May, Hull meets Bristol City. If The Tigers were to win everything in the final rounds, this could be the ultimate climax of the season.
However, Hull did not start the final offensive of the season. Visiting another competitor, number seven Middlesbrough, lost 1-0. Boro had only won one of his last eight matches, but finally managed to deal with The Tigers. Through Fraizer Campbell, Hull was very close to the equalizer several times, but was unable to at least grab a point at Riverside Stadium.
The words of Nigel Adkins after the game spoke volumes: “How did we not win this match? In the first half we had some good chances and in the second half we completely dominated the competition. I can’t blame the players for this defeat. Unfortunately, we have not achieved the result that we were looking for. ”
