Bournemouth vs Manchester City Prediction & Betting tips
The Premier League opens on Sunday afternoon with the game between AFC Bournemouth and Manchester City. Both teams have four points after two games and it therefore promises to be an interesting game.
AFC Bournemouth:
With Manchester City as opponent, Bournemouth is scheduled for the first real test of the season on Sunday afternoon. The Cherries were already competing against PhD candidates Sheffield United and Aston Villa and thus retained four points in those two games. However, Manchester City is a different story. The Bournemouth of Eddie Howe started the Premier League with a 1-1 draw against Sheffield United and last weekend Bournemouth scored three points at Aston Villa (1-2). Bournemouth had already scored twice within fifteen minutes and The Cherries managed to hold on to that lead in the end.
It is great what Bournemouth does in the first two games. Especially when you consider that The Cherries had to miss a lot of basic players. However, Howe will have to accept that there are seven potential basic players in the rag basket and that seven are not expected back in the short term either. That means that Howe will probably start with the same eleven players against Manchester City as he did against Aston Villa, which means that Philip Billing, taken over from Huddersfield Town, can count on a base place again on Sunday. The balance between Bournemouth and Manchester City has, however, been disconnected in recent years – The Cherries lost their last eight encounters with Manchester City and that fact will give little confidence in the run-up to Sunday afternoon’s game.
Manchester City:
The first point loss for Manchester City is a fact. Last season The Citizens lost points six times in 38 games and Manchester City has already lost points in one of the two games this season. Of course there is no reason to panic with Pep Guardiola, because the Spaniard can also draw 2-2 against Tottenham Hotspur. The acidity of the draw against the Spurs was that Manchester City was lord and master and saw a goal rejected in extra time. Exactly the same happened to Man City a few months ago when Manchester City met Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League and the video referee Manchester City is not in a good mood yet.
Guardiola was furious with the VAR after the duel with Tottenham and that is somewhat understandable. Only Guardiola should not be furious with the VAR but with the rules of play of the referees, because all hands are still unclear. Hands is hands is nowadays said and that would mean that the VAR rightly intervened at Manchester City against Tottenham Hotspur, but that rule is not applied consistently. It makes little sense for The Citizens to dwell on the game against Spurs for a long time, because as Manchester City takes the next 36 games, it ‘just’ takes the third league title in a row.
