Jong PSV vs Excelsior Prediction & Betting tips
Excelsior had a mediocre first half of the season, but was not given the opportunity to rise in the rankings due to COVID19. Promotion seemed to be a realistic goal, but the competition turned out to be fiercer than ever. At De Herdgang, the PSV U21 team will meet the Kralingers, where both teams kick off the new Kitchen Champion Division season.
Young PSV:
In the championship year of FC Twente (2018/19), Jong PSV exceeded all expectations. Third place was a bizarre achievement and many clubs were surprised by that. After that season there were therefore many selections in the Eredivisie that could use the services of trendsetters such as Zakaria Aboukhlal, Cody Gakpo, Mauro Junior and Ramon Lundqvist. Trainer Dennis Haar also went higher and Peter Uneken had to take over last year, but the selection seemed thin. Not much was left of the flashy reserves team from the previous season. With Richard Ledezma and Noni Madueke, Uneken still had players who could make a difference, but the selection was not much better than the last in the league. Where Haar managed to achieve 1.66 points per game, Uneken only achieved 0.76 points per game. Outside Noord-Brabant was not even won and therefore the board was forced to bring in players to strengthen the selection. Cyril Ngonge and Claudio Gomes were hired and they brought some bravado to the team.
As is often the case with a U21 team, a huge transformation is underway. Amar Catic left for ADO, while Sekou Sidibe left for FC Emmen. There are a lot of players from PSV U19 who have been transferred to Young PSV and the question is to what extent they can handle the Kitchen Champion Division level. PSV has made two future-oriented purchases. The Moroccan / Spanish attacking midfielder Ismael Saibari made the switch from Genk to the city of light. Feyenoord talent Cheick Touré needed a development plan and the team from Rotterdam could not offer him that, which means that he will probably play at Young PSV next season.
Excelsior:
Ricardo Moniz was brought in at Excelsior to ensure that Excelsior would remain active in the Eredivisie. However, this did not work and the Kralingers were relegated, after which Moniz started his job towards the highest level. In the first period, this worked quite well, but Excelsior was not as convincing as expected. The number of goals conceded was enormous and the matches were all over the place, think of five to ten goals. Around the turn of the year, De Ster van Kralingen was engaged in a weak run with a loss against Cambuur, draws against FC Dordrecht and Telstar and when the Herdgang of Jong PSV was also lost, Moniz’s credit had run out. Marinus Dijkhuizen was again appointed as head coach of the Rotterdammers. He only rose one place in the rankings, but making the play-offs was certainly still there. However, it never got that far.
Almost six months later, Dijkhuizen starts with the counter at zero. The team has now changed somewhat. Mercenaries Wouter Burger and Cameron Humphreys have left, while club top scorer and player of the year Rai Vloet made the switch to Heracles Almelo. Reuven Niemeijer made the opposite walk, while young players Mats Wieffer and Lars Bleijenberg were also recruited. Mitchell van Rooijen – the captain of Jong FC Utrecht last season – was hired, strengthening the midfield. That was not visible in the preparation, where Excelsior went 3-0 against the amateurs of Excelsior Maassluis. They also lost against Genk, but Helmond Sport was beaten 2-1.
