Togo vs Egypt Prediction & Betting tips
After a year break, qualification for the Africa Cup in Cameroon in 2022 is picking up speed again. The program consisted of a round-trip leg, as on the third and fourth matchdays there were identical games with swapped home rights. In a total of twelve groups of four, the teams fight for the 24 tickets for the final round. In Group G, a (preliminary) decision could be made on Tuesday in the duel between Togo and Egypt.
After the underdog from the Comoros celebrated a 2-1 home win against Kenya on Sunday evening, the team leads the table and can already secretly plan the finals. Should the tip on the guest victory be successful in the duel between Togo and Egypt, both the Comoros and the Egyptians would have a five-point lead on third in the table and would only theoretically be displaced from first and second place.
For Togo it is already the game of the last chance, because a draw would not be enough for the underdog. The game starts on Tuesday at 16:00 p.m. Central European time.
Togo :
With the participation in the World Cup in Germany in 2006, Togo was also able to make international headlines, otherwise the successes are limited. The quarter-finals of the Africa Cup 2014 in South Africa were the greatest success on the home continent. At the last Africa Cup of Nations in 2019, the current number 126 in the FIFA world rankings was left with the role of spectator – a fate that threatens also in 2022.
For many years, Emanuel Adebayor was the figurehead of football in Togo. However, there has always been a big gap behind him and in terms of breadth the team was significantly weaker than the competition in Africa. Meanwhile, the big star of the team is not at home on the offensive, but on the defensive. Getafe defense boss Djene is the captain in his homeland.
Otherwise there are a number of unknown players who have rarely been able to gain a foothold in Europe. Peniel Mlapa (former U21 national player in Germany) might still be familiar to some German-speaking football fans. After it wasn’t enough for the big career and the DFB-Elf was never an issue, he decided to make his debut for his parents’ home country in 2017. In ten internationals, however, he has not yet succeeded in scoring.
Ten games without a goal are disappointing for a striker, but this is put into perspective a little, because goals are very rare in Togo anyway. In the last six international matches, the bet on a Under 2.5 was crowned with success. The team headed by French head coach Claude le Roy only scored four goals during this period.
Egypt :
The Egyptian national soccer team was the first African team to participate in a World Cup in 1934. After the premiere, the pharaohs were only represented in the final round in 1990 and 2018. In the last two participations, however, Egypt had to say goodbye after the preliminary round. It didn’t go really well beyond its own continent, but between 2006 and 2010 Egypt took the crown at the Africa Cup three times in a row.
With the participation in the World Cup in Russia two and a half years ago, however, the upswing of recent years was crowned. This is closely linked to the personality of Mohamed Salah, who leads his homeland with outstanding achievements. But last week the mandatory health check came as a shock. Salah tested positive, has to go into quarantine and is not available to Egypt for the two games against Togo.
The failure of the Liverpool attacker is a severe weakening and many Egyptians were concerned that the team could gamble away their participation. The start of the qualification was only partially satisfactory with two draws in November 2019.
These fears do not come true and thanks to the home game victory, the preliminary decision in the fight for the Africa Cup ticket could be made on Tuesday. With a win, Egypt would have a five point lead over Kenya and failure in the last two qualifying games (ideally again with Salah) is unimaginable.
In addition, the current constitution speaks for Egypt, because in the last eleven international matches, the team of head coach Hossam El Badry suffered only one defeat (against South Africa). The defense is also strong as a bear, conceding just three goals in these eleven games.
