Montenegro vs Cyprus Prediction & Betting tips
The decisions are to be made in Group C1 of the 2020/21 UEFA Nations League. While for hosts Montenegro it is a matter of collecting more points than pursuers Luxembourg in order to defend first place, Cyprus needs a victory in Podgorica alongside Schützenhilfe from Luxembourg in order not to slip into the relegation playoffs.
The guests have their backs to the wall, which is also reflected in the odds comparison of the betting base. There, in the run-up to the game between Montenegro and Cyprus, the odds are clearly pointing towards the home side.
After all, the Montenegrin national football team already won the first leg against Cyprus 2-0 and got a total of ten out of 15 possible points from the five games. Last Saturday, however, Montenegro couldn’t get beyond a goalless draw in Azerbaijan, while Cyprus made it all exciting again with a narrow 2-1 home win over Luxembourg.
Still, we don’t think the Cypriots have excessive chances in Podgorica. Instead, we recommend tip 1 for Montenegro versus Cyprus.
Montenegro :
The Montenegrin national soccer team has only existed as an independent selection since 2007. The list of international matches and successes that the miniature soccer player was able to record is correspondingly short.
Only in the run-up to the EM 2012 did the kickers known as Sokoli (in German: the falcons) make it into the playoffs, but failed there because of the Czech Republic. The EURO 2021 will also take place without Montenegro, which finished last in qualifying group A with England, the Czech Republic, Kosovo and Bulgaria with not a single win and 3:22 goals.
Faruk Hadžibegić’s team is all the more successful in the Nations League at the moment. After only the games against Lithuania could be won in the first edition in the group of four with Serbia, Romania and Lithuania, which brought Sokoli third place, the signs are clear at the moment for promotion.
With ten points, the Montenegrins go into the sixth and final match day as leaders in the sixth and final matchday because of the surprising victory of today’s guest Cyprus against Luxembourg. So as long as they achieve at least the same result as the Luxembourgers, they will definitely go to League B.
So that you don’t have to look at the live score, the Sokoli want to concentrate fully on themselves and play for victory at home in Podgorica. With Montenegro against Cyprus tip 1 is basically also under a good star. After all, Faruk Hadžibegić’s men already won the first leg 2-0.
Overall, however, the home win and the associated promotion would also be the logical consequence of a longer period of strength. Montenegro have lost only one of their last eight international matches: a 1: 2 home defeat against Luxembourg.
Cyprus :
The Cypriot national football team has been a member of FIFA since 1948, but only became a member of UEFA in 1962, after independence from Great Britain was achieved in 1960.
To this day, however, the blues have never successfully qualified for a final round. Most recently, however, the Cypriots sold themselves very dearly, at least in the context of the EM 2021 Quali. In the group with Belgium, Russia, Scotland, Kazakhstan and San Marino, they ended up in fourth place and scored ten points.
Ultimately, however, a tight 14 points were missing from second place, which is why the Cypriot national football team once again clearly missed a European Championship finals. Also in the first edition of the Nations League there was only one win out of six games: a 2-1 win over Slovenia.
In the end, the Cypriots landed third in their group in League C. Currently, however, the signs are more likely to say goodbye. After only one point from the first four international matches, the Blues finally finished last in group C1.
But then Johan Walem’s team won their home game against Luxembourg 2-1 last Saturday, increasing the points account to a total of four points from five games.
So only one point is still missing in Azerbaijan. An away win in Podgorica with a maximum of one draw by the Azerbaijanis in Luxembourg and relegation would be achieved.
