Ajax vs Young Boys Prediction & Betting tips
After the (unnecessary) elimination of PSV, Ajax is the only remaining club in the Europa League. The team from Amsterdam can try to reach the quarter finals of the second European club tournament via the Swiss BSC Young Boys.
Ajax:
After missing out on a place in the eighth finals of the Champions League, Ajax’s entry into the sixteenth finals of the Europa League was a consolation prize. But the team from Amsterdam focused well, in their diptych against OSC Lille. The first leg in France was one of the best matches Ajax played that season so far. In Northern France they won with 1-2. A week later in Amsterdam, Ajax’s game was less impressive – there was more of a duel full of battle – but what was offered was enough for a new 2-1 victory.
The two wins came about without the input of winter purchase Sebastien Haller, after the amateurish mistake regarding the striker’s entry. Last Sunday, Haller did participate in the 3-1 competition match against FC Groningen. In their own country, the North Hollanders are steadily heading for the country title – and possibly even the double. European success would complete the season, but coach Erik ten Hag will also realize that the level of his team still needs to be raised a bit. On Thursday, Ten Hag again cannot have Haller and Andre Onana. Daley Blind has a question mark behind his name.
Young Boys:
BSC Young Boys managed to deal with Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the sixteenth finals. The first game was won spectacularly. In Bern, Young Boys took a 3-0 lead, saw Leverkusen come back to 3-3, but eventually won 4-3. The return in the BayArena a week later was a lot less tumultuous. Young Boys, however, defended very solidly and managed to defuse Leverkusen’s dangerous attack. The yellow-blacks themselves struck twice, resulting in a 0-2 victory.
Young Boys has the role of underdog against Ajax, just like against Leverkusen, but the team of trainer Gerardo Seoane seems to feel at home there. YB certainly doesn’t have a bad team either; in the past three seasons, the team from Bern has always managed to take the Swiss title, and this season too Young Boys seems to be champion again – they have a street length ahead of number two Servette. Last weekend, points were lost, at home against FC Vaduz (1-1). In that game, the first goalkeeper David von Ballmoos was also injured. He is not available on Thursday.
