Algeria vs Guinea Prediction & Betting tips
Without starting a policy discussion on how to increase the number of participants in international football tournaments, we are in a position to state that the expansion from 16 to 24 participants did not do the Africa Cup of Nations any good. On the one hand, the quality of the individual pairings suffered in the preliminary round under this, only for commercial reasons comprehensible, bloating. On the other hand, it went at the expense of the respective game progress, as many teams during the 90 minutes symbolically brought the slide rule from the non-existent trouser pocket and calculated, as the result should be because now at least one of the four best group stages to make it into the second round can. After all, there is now the hope that with the start of the K.O. phase, finally, the African joy of play stops and at the latest in the round of the last eight separates the wheat from the chaff.
The sixth out of eight eighth-final matches will be played on Sunday evening by Algeria and Guinea. The odds of the bookmakers imply a fairly clear favorite role in favor of the desert foxes, who have so far played a strong tournament – at least as far as the result is concerned. The North Africans won all three matches in Group C and are also without a single goal. The situation is different for the Guinean national team, which only fixed the knockout round by beating Burundi 2-0 on the final day. Nonetheless, the team, which is expected to continue to relinquish their superstar Naby Keita, should not be underestimated. However, we dare in advance between Algeria and Guinea, the forecast that the team of coach Djamel Belmadi prevails and also at least two goals in the game fall.
Algeria:
Relationship status: complicated. What many social media users know from their various profiles on Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat can also be applied to football with a bit of imagination. In fact, we can not necessarily declare the connection between the Algerian national football team and the Africa Cup as a romantic love story, but rather as an on-off relationship with few heights, but more depths. The only title victory of the desert fox in the national tournament on the “black continent” succeeded in 1990 in the home. Since then, however, missed the World Cup first-round finalist of 2014 always to reach the semi-finals or even the final. At the most recent participation in Gabon in 2017, even after the preliminary round was final. However, coach Djamel Belmadi’s charges have come a long way this year. At least in the group stage, the Green-Whites were able to do justice to their favorite role.
With the optimal yield of nine points from three games, the Algerians took first place in Group C and thus received one of the four group thirds for the round of 16. Especially in the defense knew the North Africans to convince in the preliminary round, because neither against Kenya (2: 0), nor against the also highly valued Senegalese (1-0) or Tanzania (3-0) had cult keeper Rais M’Bolhi behind him. The desert foxes thus provide the best defense of the tournament and are therefore among other things to treat as a serious contender for the title. Who believes, moreover, that the defense is the only showpiece of the Belmadi-Eleven, which is wrong, because even the six goals scored (together with Mali) the top value among all 24 African Cup participants.
We certainly do not lean too far out of the window if we consider the Algerians to be one of the best teams in the current African Championship. These positive impressions are now to be confirmed and to make progress in the quarterfinals perfect. Due to the confident self-confidence in the promising victories and the fact that the title holder of 1990 in the international match year 2019 is still unbeaten (five successes, two draws) we tend to Algeria vs. Eighth. Guinea to a tip on the desert foxes, who are also – even for geographical reasons – hope for more fan support.
Personally, Coach Belmadi is spoiled for choice. Riyad Mahrez, Baghdad Bounedjah and Sofiane Feghouli have lost to Tanzania and are likely to return to the starting eleven. However, Adam Ounas would have deserved another start from the start after the 22-year-old scored a double from SSC Napoli at the end of the group stage. There is no shortage of offensive power and individual quality for the North Africans, which is why we add to our recommendation the addition of at least two goals in regular time.
Guinea:
The big star of the Guinean national team is undoubtedly Naby Keita. The former Leipzig player, who is now in the service of Liverpool FC, is also currently the biggest problem case. Although the officials of his English employer would have liked that the 24-year-old canceled his participation in the African Cup due to injury, Keita flew to Egypt and was – to the astonishment of many – even in two preliminary matches used. The midfielder injured but again and had to pass the final against Burundi. He then traveled again to Liverpool for medical examinations and plans yet again the return to the Guinean district.
Whether the star of the “Syli National (e)”, so the nickname of the team, on Sunday evening in the round of 16 against Algeria on the pitch, is still in the stars and is considered unlikely. As if this lingering farce about the vulnerability of Keita’s is not already curious enough, youthful protesters are said to have recently besieged the house of the family in Conakry, accused the relatives of the “witchcraft” and blamed for the injury of the Liverpoolers.
In order to create the transition to purely sporting impressions, it should be said that Guinea has not been able to fully convince. In a group with Madagascar, Nigeria and Burundi, the Belgian coach Paul Put’s charges only came in third and were only able to thank the underdog Burundi 2-0 on Matchday 3 for their place in the group third place standings one pushed. In a way, the Syli National (e) confirmed the weak shape of the preparation. There lost the many experts even act as a secret favorite world ranking 71st just before the start of the Africa Cup against Benin (0: 1) and Egypt (1: 3). In particular, the defensive was identified as a vulnerability. With only one win from six internationals in the calendar year 2019 (two draws, three defeats) should also have cracked the self-confidence. We do not believe the outsider in the current state of surprise and recommend the odds for a success of the favorites before the round of 16 between Algeria and Guinea.
With the exception of the mentioned Naby Keita’s all men should be available. The main focus is on attacking Mohamed Yattara, who scored both goals in the Do-or-Die match against Burundi. With him Kamano and Kaba two players from the French Ligue 1 and captain Ibrahima Traore of Borussia Mönchengladbach.
