Amiens vs Strasbourg Prediction & Betting tips
Sunday’s league game between Amiens and RC Strasbourg will be unique in French football history, as this game will be the first ever in the Ligue 1 under the guidance of a female referee. Will Stéphanie Frappart manage to stand her ground in a match that is nowhere else for one of the two teams?
Amiens:
With 32 points from 33 league matches, Amiens has still not played himself safe, as the lead on number seventeen Dijon is still only four points with five games to go. Last week, Les Licornes did bad business by visiting Nantes within 15 minutes after the break and trailing 3-0 and then only coming back to 3-2. In the previous five seasons, at least 37 points were needed for direct retention, which means that Christophe Pélissier’s team seems to have to play a minimum of five points in the remaining five games.
Especially in the offensive field, Amiens is inadequate this season with only 28 goals in 33 games, or an average of 0.85 goals per game. In addition, an average of 1.45 goals is collected per match, making the Pélissier team the number seventeen of the Ligue 1 not only in terms of points, but also in terms of goal difference. With eight goals in the last seven games, the team has been working on the goal difference in the last few weeks, while in the defensive field, it also performed better with eight goals in the last eight games.
RC Strasbourg:
RC Strasbourg did quite well in its own house against Montpellier in the last round of play. An attacking powerless team from Thierry Laurey managed to score only one shot through the entire match via Pablo Martinez, the only scorer on the side of le Racing, while goalkeeper Matz Sels was allowed to take the ball three times out of his goal. With ten points behind in fifth place, the Laurey team does not play for anything anymore in the remainder of the season and therefore the motivation seems to have been somewhat lost in the men from Strasbourg.
The motivation seems to have run out of time for the South-African striker Lebo Mothiba, who in his last eleven appearances came to only one goal. In the last three duels of le Racing, Mothiba was all lined up against Montpellier and he also raided one against Paris Saint-Germain, but the striker makes little impression in both appearances. With four goals in his first seven league matches of the season, Mothiba had a good start at his new club, but his second half of the season has so far been downright disappointing. One of his competitors for the rush-hour position, Ludovic Ajorque, has made quite an impression in recent weeks, as a result of which Mothiba is expected to make an appearance against Amiens at most.
