Anderlecht vs Club Brugge KV Prediction & Betting tips
Cup competitions are known to have their own laws. The Belgian Cup also impresses once again with regularly unexpected results. Last season, for example, the KV Mechelen, the second division champion, sensationally won the title thanks to a success in the final against the favored KAA Gent.
The even bigger surprises were already to be admired in the previous rounds. Teams like Anderlecht, Standard Liège or Bruges all failed silently and soundlessly due to their opening hurdles from subclass leagues and didn’t even seem to be particularly annoyed about it. The status of the cup in the country of the World Cup third party is – to put it mildly – manageable.
Nevertheless, before the quarter-finals on Thursday evening between Anderlecht and Bruges, we dare to make a forecast. According to the odds, the current leader in the highest Belgian league is favored quite clearly, which coincides with our assessment.
The team of coach Philippe Clement is currently the measure of all things at the national level and is aiming for the double 2019/20 – also considering the already big lead in the league.
The hosts, on the other hand, lag far behind their own expectations, are in poor shape and are currently even worried about reaching the championship round of the top six teams. The priority is therefore on the league, which is why we clearly prefer a tip on the qualitatively more valued guest between Anderlecht and Bruges.
Anderlecht:
The RSC Anderlecht had no lack of courage to innovate before the start of this season. The royal sports club from the Brussels suburb brought the freshly baked Premier League champion Vincent Kompany from Manchester City and installed him as a player coach.
This constellation, which is extremely rare in world football, was already considered to have failed at the end of August, since from then on, the experienced central defender was deprived of responsibility for tactics, direction and change on match days.
However, because Simon Davies, who was then on the bridge, seemed overwhelmed with his tasks, the Englishman moved back to the second link in mid-October and Franky Vercauteren was hired as the new head coach. Since the competencies of the Belgian record champions have been clearly delineated, the shape curve has finally pointed in the right direction.
The violets are still far from reaching their full potential, but at least the experienced football coach hailed only one defeat in ten cross-competition matches. However, because only three wins in nine matches were achieved in the league, Anderlecht currently have to make do with tenth place in the table.
The gap to sixth position, which is needed to make the leap into the final round of the championship after 30 match days, is already eight points. After a series of the last four games without a win, including two disappointing zero numbers against a home backdrop against Charleroi and Kortrijk, the record champions’ camp is skeptical as to whether the minimum goal can actually still be achieved.
Due to the bottom line atmosphere around Lotto Park, it is difficult for us to assess whether the cup competition is seen as a necessary evil or as an opportunity to somehow save the miserable season.
Regardless of the answer to this question, before the quarter-finals we will meet Anderlecht vs. Bruges predicted that the leader would leave the field as the winner. The tense personnel situation among the violet whites, who have to do without numerous top performers, serves as an additional argument.
Giant talent Verschaeren, veteran Nasri, attacker Dimata and Bakkali are missing on the offensive. Defensively, Franky Vercauteren Andy Najar and Philippe Sandler are not available. In the 3-2 win in the round of 16 at Royal Excel Mouscron two weeks ago, the coach also left other regulars on the bench.
Bruges:
Brugge coach Philippe Clement can be absolutely satisfied with his team’s season so far. The 45-year-old, who was Belgian champion with Genk last year, implemented his playing style in the northwest of the country in a very short time and has already had some great successes.
Thanks to victories in the qualification against Dynamo Kiev and the Linz ASK, the blues and blacks were able to take part in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. There, the royal association won a remarkable 2-2 at Real Madrid and moved into third place in Group A in the Europa League intermediate round. In February, the Clement protégés will face none other than Manchester United.
The yield is also impressive at the national level. 14 victories, three draws and only one defeat underline the dominance that the 15-time champion (most recently in 2018) currently exudes in the country of the World Cup third. The most recent four matches in Division A were won by Club Brugge.
Because the lead over the second-placed Royal Antwerp is already eight points and the leader has to play one more game, it can be assumed that the blue-blacks will end the regular season first.
Due to the comfortable starting position, the industry leader may also focus more on the trophy. The Flanders are record winners with eleven titles there, but they have been waiting for the next triumph since 2015. The fact that Philippe Clement takes the national cup competition more seriously than many assume is demonstrated, among other things, by the lineup he chose in the previous round.
At the away game in Oostende at the beginning of December, which the Europa League sixteenth finalist won 4-2 after penalties, numerous top performers were in the starting XI. Even regular goalkeeper Simon Mignolet did not get a break, even though the important CL match against Galatasaray was on the program a week later.
In view of the increased cup priority and the results so far, which the guest had against the competition from their own country over the course of the season, in our eyes between Anderlecht and Bruges, there is almost no alternative to predicting the stronger blue-blacks.
