Finally! The summer break will end on the weekend with the start of the national championships. On the island the opening game between Arsenal London and Leicester City, two teams, which after last season have something to make amends. The Gunners have already begun. Where does the journey go for the teams?
Arsenal :
It can only get better. In any case, the motto is the Arsenal. Behind the Gunners lies an eventful season with several heights and many, many depths. The miserable performance in the league (rank 6, worst placement in nearly ten years) could not be competed by the final cup victory.
The summer break was initially characterized by the Wenger question: Is he? Does he stay? Who would come if? The Frenchman, with 20 years of post-match time by far the most senior Premier League coach, was able to persuade the players in the end again of his whereabouts, but now stands before a groundbreaking season – as well as the entire team.
The summer went apart from an exception arsenal typical. While the rest of the league frantically bridged the checkbooks as in the bazaar, Arsene Wenger remained almost stoically inactive. However, he had only one big goal that he was all the more trying to achieve: Alexandre Lacazette could be committed, with the Gunners finally a transfer of world-class format succeeded. In addition, only ex-Schalker Sead Kolasinac was obligated.
Kolasinac: The German-Bosnian undoubtedly enjoyed his debut debut, throwing himself fearlessly into everything that looked like opponents’ legs, as they know from Schalke’s games. More importantly, he paid the compensation for his colors shortly before the end of the game. The Supercup win against Chelsea is largely due to Kolasinac’s cap.
But the rest of the team has already shown promising approaches. Although the likes of Özil or Mustafi were still hurt, the team seems to be prepared for the new season.
The injuries from the pre-season have hardly subsided. Important players such as Santi Cazorla, Gabriel Paulista and Francis Coquelin are still missing, with minor injuries and infections with Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Per Mertesacker and Joel Campbell. Anyone who will be able to sign up in time will not be available.
Cech – Kolasinac, Mustafi, Koscielny, Bellerin – Xhaka, Ramsey, Elneny – Ozil, Walcott, Lacazette
Leicester :
If Arsenal had a season to forget, what was going on at Leicester City? As a reigning champion, the Foxes made an unprecedented crash and just started on time so the 2016/17 season finished 12th.
The euphoria around the champion team failed at the latest with the dismissal of success coaching Ranieri, now Leicester has to show whether the championship season was actually only a slip-up, or whether they are allowed to register claims at least near the upper tables.
The start-up program is likely to answer this question fairly quickly with Arsenal, United (3. Matchday) and Chelsea (Matchday 4), Leicester will meet directly on three top teams in the first four seasons. One can only hope Coach Craig Shakespeare has prepared his elf.
After all, it could be retrofitted in the summer, without losing any significant losses. With Kelehi Iheanacho coming from Manchester another dynamic scorer, with Vicente Iborra an experienced midfielder. Added to this are Harry Maguirer, Eldin Jakupovic and George Thomas, who will, however, strengthen the breadth of the squad.
Similar to the Gunners, Leicester City also has to renounce several established forces. With Wes Morgan and Robert Huth, the budgetary defenses are in all likelihood complete, with Ben Hamer, Nampalys Mendy and presumably also the Iborra. The following formation is expected to occur.
Schmeichel – Fox, Maguire, Simpson, Chilwell – Drinkwater, Iborra, Albrighton – Mahrez, Iheanacho, Vardy
