Barnsley vs Wolves Prediction & Betting tips
About a year ago, Wolverhampton Wanderers was still beaten 0-4 by Barnsley. How different are the proportions now. Can the relegation candidate still take care of a stunt at home against the leader?
Barnsley :
Since Barnsley was eliminated in the Carabao Cup in mid-September, the FA Cup tournament was the only stage where Barnsley could still be honored. In the competition, The Tykes are in the nineteenth position, only two points above the relegation streak. Although the focus is on competition and especially life retention, a good result in the oldest cup tournament in the world could possibly improve the results. Barnsley started the tournament last Saturday with an away match against the well performing Millwall in the last weeks. Barnsley came surprisingly ahead of The Den early on in the game. The goal of the 23-year-old Brad Potts, however, was already canceled by a goal from Millwall. In between, Barnsley missed a few small chances. What was most striking, however, was the poor defense of Paul Heckingbottom’s team in the first half.
That bad defending would eventually break Barnsley, because in the second half Millwall put its goal attempts very effectively into a 4-1 lead, also the final score in London. That is how Barnsley immediately stranded in the FA Cup and can now fully focus on the competition. Characteristic of Barnsley’s approach is perhaps that coach Heckingbottom said ironically after the match that at least three points had not been lost this weekend.
Wolves:
Wolverhampton Wanderers takes the lead in the Championship and can go for promotion at the end of the year. By far the most games this season are winning and nobody in the competition seems to get the level of Wolverhampton – at least not week in, week out. In the FA Cup-tournament the leader of the second level of England met Swansea City. The Swans are at the bottom of the Premier League and theoretically, the two teams could exchange at the end of the season.
At the Molineux Stadium, it became clear that The Wolves could handle the Swansea level perfectly. Better said, the home team dictated most of the game and had deserved to win at Wolverhampton. However, the game ended in 0-0 in which both teams ended with ten men. For rest Ruben Vinagre was already sent off the field and after rest Leroy Fer could take a shower early. It was striking that even in the period between the two red cards – in which Wolverhampton stood with a man less – the home team still had the better of the game. The return in Wales is scheduled for next Wednesday.
For this the league match against Barnsley is on the program. In Barnsley Wolverhampton Wanderers will not be able to appeal to the 18-year-old Vinagre, who is suspended because of his direct red card against Swansea City. This is in no way a disaster for coach Nuno, as he does not yet see a regular basic player in young Portuguese. The site of Vinagre will most likely be taken again by Barry Douglas.
