Basel vs Sion Prediction & Betting tips
With six games behind schedule, the Swiss Super League is still somewhat distorted. The current table has correspondingly little informative value. Both Basel and Sion can correct their currently unsatisfactory position with a win in the catch-up game on Wednesday evening. For both of them, however, there is also the risk of losing out on the spot in this game.
In the run-up to the match between FC Basel and Sion, the odds of the bookmakers turn towards red-blue, as the odds comparison of the betting base shows.
After all, FCB has been unbeaten in eleven home games against the Grenats. Only three and a half years ago, Sion kidnapped at least one point from St. Jakob-Park in a 2-2 draw. Since then, Rotblau has won seven home games in a row against the Valais.
In connection with the most recent series of defeats by Sion, who lost 2-0 in Lucerne after the 1: 4 swatter at bottom Vaduz, there is little to be said for the Grenats winning points. With this in mind, we recommend the home side’s three-point bet against Sion at FC Basel, which we allude as a half-time final score bet (1/1).
FC Basel :
FC Basel is still in a very bad phase. After “de Bebbi” was the absolute measure of all things in Switzerland between 2010 and 2017 and celebrated eight of the 20 national championships in a row, the results have recently been getting worse.
In two runners-up championships behind the Young Boys, this summer only came third. St. Gallen also recently overtook FCB. The current table for the 2020/21 season confirms this downward trend. Before the catch-up game against Sion, Basel are only fourth.
The FCB also had a particularly hard hit when they missed qualifying for the Europa League. In the competition in which Rotblau even made it to the semi-finals in 2012/13, this year the playoffs ended. Ciriaco Sforza lost 1: 3 at home to CSKA Sofia.
For the first time since the 2001/02 season, Basel is not in the main round of one of UEFA’s two competitions. With the slipping on the national level these days, the international insignificance for the former permanent guest in the Champions League goes hand in hand. It would be all the more important for Rotblau to get the curve back as soon as possible.
Two of the last three league games could at least be won. Only away from home does the Ciriaco Sforza team still have significant room for improvement. In Zurich, Bern and Lugano there have recently been three away losses in a row.
But it is all the more promising to place the tip on the next home win for Rotblau against Sion at FC Basel. In the local St. Jakob-Park the Bebbi had almost everything under control. From four home games, the Basel team won ten out of a possible twelve points. Against an opponent who has not been able to win here for eleven away games, this home series should be able to continue.
Sion:
FC Sion has been part of the Super League continuously since 2006, but had to tremble for a long time over and over again about belonging to the top division in Switzerland. It wasn’t until this summer that the Valais escaped the barrage again and again and saved themselves in eighth place in the final table.
Even now, however, there is again a tendency towards relegation battle again. The Grenats only achieved one victory from their first eight league games, which means that with two pent-up games left, the unwelcome penultimate place in the table is on the books.
Most recently, Fabio Grosso’s men even missed a break in the basement duel against newly promoted Vaduz. The 1: 4 bankruptcy in Liechtenstein also marked the first victory of the outsider, who thus moved up to one point on Sion. Much now depends on the results of the Valais in the catch-up games.
It is clear that the Grosso-Elf with two wins from the two open catch-up games against Basel and Lugano could climb into the upper half of the table in one fell swoop and put their relegation concerns on file. But it is also clear that if Vaduz gets more points from the two catch-up games, even the red lantern for the Grenats is in it.
With the pressure on his back, the two-time Swiss champion travels to St. Jakob-Park, where only one point has been kidnapped in the last eleven guest performances. Accordingly, it is not surprising that the betting providers do not trust the Grenats too much today.
It would be all the more important to end the lean period at Rotblau with a bang.
