Betis vs Espanyol Prediction & Betting tips
Real Betis and Espanyol are both outsiders for European football. On Monday evening both teams will decide in a direct confrontation in the Benito Villamarin who can continue to dream of the Europa League, because from now on every point loss will be fatal.
Real Betis:
In theory, Real Betis can still seize seventh place, with which it would qualify for the preliminary rounds of the Europa League. However, that is not very realistic, because even if the Andalusians manage to beat Espanyol on Monday evening, they are still four points behind the current number seven Athletic Bilbao with only three games to go. In addition, the form with no less than four defeats in the last five duels is really crying. Last Wednesday evening, the green-and-whites received a whopping 4-0 knock from low-flyer Levante, after which various media announced the resignation of trainer Quique Setien. However, that turned out to be premature, as the club announced in an official message on its own website that Setien can still call himself a trainer of Real Betis, and that there will be an evaluation only after the end of this season.
The fact that Real Betis, through an official press release, considered it necessary to announce the stay of Setien, naturally says everything about the noisy situation in Benito Villamarin. The supporters have been dissatisfied for some time. If Real Betis falls through the basket again on Monday evening, fans might turn against their own club. In the meantime, Setien calls for solidarity and hopes to be able to close the season with his head held high: “As long as European football is theoretically possible, we must continue to go for it.” However, Andalusian self-confidence is currently hard to find.
Espanyol:
Espanyol is in exactly the same boat as Real Betis. Just like the Andalusians, the Catalans have 43 points and therefore need a very strong final sprint to perhaps even win European football.
Yet the atmosphere at Espanyol is very different from that at Real Betis. The blues and whites had to tighten their belt last summer and saw, among other things, goaltal thief Gerard Moreno leaving, so the current ninth place is more than what the fans had hoped for prior to this season. Trainer Rubi lets his team play football nicely and is busy with a nice series with only two losses in the last thirteen rounds. “We’re going to try to get European football,” said goalkeeper Diego Lopez, who, given his past at Real Madrid, Villarreal and AC Milan, knows what he is talking about. “Everything is possible in the last four rounds.” In its current form, Espanyol need not be afraid of anyone.
