Bordeaux vs Nantes Prediction & Betting tips
After a break of several months, the French Ligue 1 is finally back on the pitch. The 2019/20 season was canceled prematurely, this weekend the kick-off for the new season will sound. Flexibility was again required, because the planned Olympique Marseille game had to be postponed due to several illnesses.
Without further ado, the game between Bordeaux and Nantes was moved one day forward and is thus the opening game for the 2020/21 season.
In the Matmut Atlantique stadium in the world-famous wine-growing region, the fans can prepare for a duel at eye level. At the time of the end of the season, the two teams were neighbors in the table and even collected the same number of points. However, thanks to home advantage, the best bookmakers tend to tend slightly towards the hosts.
Bordeaux:
With the exception of the 2015/16 season, the south-west French occupied a place in the top seven of the French Ligue Une between the 2005/06 and 2017/18 seasons. In the last two years, however, the development is worrying, the final positions 14 and 12 by no means correspond to their own claims.
The twelfth place in the previous year is a little put into perspective by the fact that the gap to fifth was just four points. With ten games left, a return to Europe would have been possible.
The separation from Sousa came as a bit of a surprise, after all, it was only completed about two weeks ago. An average of 1.21 points is by no means outstanding, but the ex-Dortmund Sousa is said to have asked for a dissolution himself after he was not guaranteed the desired transfer budget.
The 66-year-old Jean-Louis Gasset, who was already assistant coach to Laurent Blanc at Bordeaux between 2010 and 2012, was signed as his successor. Now he is returning to his old place of work as head coach and is supposed to lead the south-west French back towards the top half of the table.
Even if Gasset knows Bordeaux from his past, he didn’t have much time to prepare for the new season. After all, he can count on a well-rehearsed team, because there were no changes in the squad this transfer summer.
Bordeaux is not known for making big transfers anyway, but due to the current financial situation there has not been a single new signing. Gasset has to do without defender Pablo on his debut, who is still out due to an injury.
Nantes:
Only because of the poorer goal difference (-3 as opposed to +6) the canaries from Nantes were classified behind Bordeaux in the Ligue 1 table. After a very strong start (second place after eleven match days), Christian Gourcuff’s team slipped into a crisis.
The 2020 calendar year started successfully (2-0 at Saint-Etienne), but in the further course of the calendar year so far there was not much reason to celebrate. In the last eight league games before the season ended, Nantes was only able to collect five points. Five defeats stand against two draws and only one win.
However, the fact that the canaries celebrated the last three league victories abroad gives some hope.
A closer look at the results of last season shows that goals are few and far between at Nantes at their home stadium Stade de la Beaujoire.
