Brazil vs Panama Prediction & Betting tips
The Estadio do Dragao is normally the home of the Portuguese FC Porto, but next weekend this stadium will be the battlefield of the remarkable practice international between Brazil and Panama. On paper, the difference in power between the two countries is huge.
Brazil:
Brazil is of course the country of Pele, Zico and Garrincha, and of more recent times Romario, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho, Kaka and Neymar. “Os ingleses o inventaram, os brasileiros o aperfeiçoaram”, (The English invented it, the Brazilians perfected it) is a well-known football statement in the streets of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
Yet it is again about twelve years ago that Brazil won a first prize with the win of the Copa America in 2007. In 2009 and 2013, the South Americans managed to seize the Confederations Cup, but of course those are not the tournaments you do it for. It is therefore high time for a new honorary metal. This summer Brazil will be the host country of the Copa America and national coach Tite realizes that the whole country demands that the Divine Canaries write that tournament to their name.
Tite knows that something needs to be done and has put together a surprising selection during this international match period, with plenty of room for fresh blood. Only eleven players who were in the World Cup selection last year were invited. The main absentee is star player Neymar, who is currently recovering from an injury in Paris. Famous names such as Dani Alves, Filipe Luis, Marcelo, Willian, Vinicius Junior, Douglas Costa and Lucas Moura also shine in their absence for various reasons. Tite focuses on the future and made early twenties as upcoming Real Madrid reinforcement Eder Militao, AC Milan midfielder Lucas Paqueta and Ajax player David Neres in the selection. Only ten players have more than ten caps behind their name, although there is still enough experience with players such as Thiago Silva (77 international matches), Joao Miranda (54), Philippe Coutinho (45) and Roberto Firmino (29).
Panama:
For Panama, 2018 was a year with a golden edge. For the first time in history, the Central Americans were allowed to take part in a World Cup final round. Los Canaleros were in a group with England, Belgium and Tunisia, although they had no chance at all and could go home with no more than zero points, but that obviously didn’t spoil the fun.
Panama had on average the oldest selection of all participants at the World Cup in Russia, so interim coach Julio Dely Valdes now has to build a new team. That is not an easy task because the increase is minimal. Almost all players are still active in their own country and of the twenty-headed selection only four players have more than four caps behind their name. Since the World Cup, Panama has played six exhibition games, five of which it lost. So that is not good, especially because the red shirts mainly practiced against B countries such as Venezuela and Honduras. Panama obviously has nothing to lose against Brazil, but it is almost ridiculous when you consider that youngsters like Angel Orelien (17, Sporting San Miguelito) and Carlos Harvey (19, Tauro) will face men like Coutinho and Casemiro on Saturday night.
