Bulgaria vs England Prediction & Betting tips
In Group A of the European Championship qualification, England will visit Bulgaria on Monday evening. The English hope to be able to recover from their disgrace against the Czech Republic last Friday. Bulgaria is already eliminated, but goes against a reputable opponent for a good result.
Bulgaria:
In the past, Bulgaria donated the football world with, among others, Hristo Stoichkov and Dimitar Berbatov various gifted world class players, which will continue to appeal to the imagination forever. However, I don’t get hot or cold from present-day Bulgaria. With only three points from six games, The Lions are not bothered with this European Championship qualification series and can of course forget about direct qualification for a long time. Perhaps the Bulgarians can still qualify for the European Championship next summer via the playoffs, but then the men of national coach Krasimir Balakov will have to make many more steps.
The chance that Bulgaria can stunt Monday evening against England is therefore extremely small. The Eastern Europeans have not been able to win a single international match for more than a year, and suffered a 4-0 defeat at Wembley last month. Bulgarian self-confidence is therefore extremely fragile, even though they still shot four shots against the English. The Bulgarian hope is mainly based on captain Ivelin Popov, who is by far the most experienced goal-oriented player in the selection. He had to let go of the away match against Montenegro (0-0) last Friday due to a suspension, but will return to base on Monday-evening.
England:
England lost 2-1 to the Czech Republic last Friday night, and with it saw an undefeated series of no less than ten years in all European and World Cup qualifiers. The team of national team coach Gareth Southgate did not come out well in Prague, and the English tabloids wrote about a Reality Czech on Saturday morning. Nevertheless, the English are still on European Championship with twelve points from five matches. If the country manages to win on Monday evening and Kosovo loses points with Montenegro, then The Tree Lions are definitively assured of European participation.
England does not have to worry (yet), although the country is not nearly as dominant as you would expect based on the results. In particular, the rear-guard is still tinkering, with the insane 5-3 victory over Kosovo last month as the best example. The English defense did not look good against the Czech Republic either, so Southgate is now considering switching to a system with three central defenders, just like last year’s World Cup. Harry Maguire, John Stones and Kyle Walker were the central rear-guard at the World Cup in Russia, helping England to secure a place in the semi-final. However, Stones is injured, and Walker is not included in the selection. The question therefore is whether this is a good time to start tinkering with the defense.
