Caen vs Lyon Prediction & Betting tips
The last quarter final of the Coupe de France will be between Caen and Lyon, two teams that did not win the last three league matches. Only one of the previous 20 meetings between both teams ended in a draw, so a victory for either team is obvious, but which of both teams?
Caen :
With 32 points from 27 games, Patrice Garande’s team is in thirteenth place, only four points above the relegation zone, but also just as far away from the top of the middle class. Last weekend was lost in an equal ascension of direct competitor Dijon, Garande his people are still not sure of avoiding relegation. Against Dijon, weak start was made in both halves to take over the initiative, but the lack of scoring power broke the team again. Julien Féret got a big chance at the end of the first half, but failed, which means his season total stays at exactly zero goals. In the second half Ronny Rodelin also got a good chance, but he also did not know how to help his team.
Only eighteen times did Garande’s team score this season, the least of all teams, and twice the opponent helped with his own goal. The striker of SMC, Ivan Santini, scored eight times this season, but in the meantime he has also finished three games and was not even involved in the last five goals of his team. Against Dijon, the Croatian was replaced after an hour of play by the Finnish talent Timo Stavitski, who made the opening goal in the previous round. In a half hour against Dijon Stavitski did not make much impression anymore and in attacking he did not even play anything ready, something the fans of Caen are not comfortable with.
Lyon :
After the deserved victory at Villareal in the sixteenth finals of the Europa League, last weekend in the national competition, valuable points were spilled in the battle for place two. Against arch rival AS Saint-Étienne, the bluff seemed to win the Derby du Rhône by an early goal by Mariano Diaz, but in the final stages, the win was still wasted by a goal from Mathieu Debuchy in the last minute of regular time. In the first half, Olympique Lyon handed out the sheets in their own Parc Olympique Lyonnais, but in the second half Bruno Génésio’s team had little more to offer. Lyon’s only chance in the second half was again in Diaz, but this time his bet did not end in the goal, resulting in a loss of points.
The gap in second place in Ligue 1, now occupied by AS Monaco, has risen to no less than seven points by winning only two points in the last five league matches. The hoped-for participation in the Champions League seems to have lost sight of last year’s semi-finalist in the Europa League, unless the Europa League is won this year. However, the competition in this European competition is firmer this year than ever and the focus seems to have to be shifted to winning in the Coupe de France, which is very possible considering the remaining teams, but then there must be won on Thursday visiting Caen.
