Caen vs Rennes Prediction & Betting tips
Caen and Stade Rennais both lost their last two games against teams from the Ligue 1 with one and two goals difference. Can one of the teams call themselves winners on Saturday night?
Caen:
Caen, the shared number fifteen of Ligue 1, lost last Wednesday in the Coupe de la Ligue with 3-1 from another shared number fifteen, Dijon. Already within seven minutes, Caen was 0-2 behind, which also was the halftime. In the second half, the team from the port city still showed signs of recovery, including by returning to 2-1, but the second loss within five days could not be avoided. The match against Dijon was in attacking territory a lot better than four days earlier against Lille, but the fact that three countergames were collected will have given Fabien Mercadal enough headaches.
Fabien Mercadal showed his disappointment about his team after the beating in Dijon: “There is a lack of concentration and commitment to all players, I do not want to go into names, but we have to be much more competitive.” One of the players that Mercadal did not specifically want to go into is Jonathan Gradit, the right back against Dijon. No less than two goals were collected on the right flank of Caen where Fréderic Guilbert normally plays. Guilbert, however, was used by Mercadal as a right defender, giving Paul Baysse a game rest. On paper a bad choice, because in all ten games where Paul Baysse played this season, his team got a maximum of two goals.
Stade Rennais:
Sabri Lamouchi currently has a team without self-confidence under his care. In the last eight games, only from the wandering AS Monaco was won and also against AS Saint-Étienne a great performance was put on the mat, but then two earned defeats were suffered. In the Europa League in the own Roazhon Park in the final phase a point was lost when Dynamo Kiev succeeded with ten men to make the winning 1-2. Last weekend, in spite of a good performance at home, Stade Reims was lost at home in the Struggle of the City. With a whopping 68% possession, les Rouges et Noirs were held at a distance by Stade Reims to only five shots on goal, while Stade Reims scored up to two goals and won 0-2.
Sabri Lamouchi decided to switch goalkeeper halfway the match against Stade Reims. Abdoulaye Diallo, who got Lamouchi’s trust earlier this season after a few lesser performances by Tomas Koubek, managed to convince his trainer so little against Stade Reims and as a result, Tomas Koubek tried to prove himself again. Koubek, who not only brought a good save in ten minutes, but also got the ball out of the net, did not prove to be the desired solution Lamouchi is looking for to win another victory. The question is therefore who can be expected on Saturday evening.
