Cercle Brugge KSV vs St. Liege Prediction & Betting tips
Cercle Brugge will start their season on Saturday evening with a visit from Standard de Liège. The visiting team would be tipped as one of the possible title candidates. Can they immediately set the tone or does Cercle know how to make a good start to the competition just like last season?
Cercle Bruges:
At Cercle, we have to wait and see how they perform under their new coach Fabien Mercadal. After a good start to the end of last season, it dropped further and further away towards the end and ended very close to the last place, although it was still far away and Lokeren had already signed for relegation. The objective is to do better than last year and to avoid degradation again.
In terms of transfers, a lot has happened at the neighbors of Club Brugge. Almost the entire team has changed. This is because Cercle makes use of renting players from Monaco and about five players made their way back. On the other hand, there are again such a number on a rental basis from Monaco. Cercle did not make a very good impression in the exhibition matches. Of their six exhibition games played, none of them managed to win and lost three times. It must be said that the opponents were often a bit better off, but the last match was against Auxerre (Ligue 2) and a little more was expected there.
Coach Mercadal knows that there is still a lot of work to be done but he thinks his team is ready for the competition. “Not everything is in perfect shape yet, we will immediately see where we stand against Standard so that they are not yet at their strongest and we probably now have another chance.”
Standard de Liège:
Standard would be ready for the fight. Just like last season, we have to wait and see how the Rouches will perform. Last season it went from peaks to fall and there was no constant in it. It ended in a nice third place, which earned them a European ticket. The target is again the top three, although everyone knows that Standard should be one of the title candidates.
Different transfers were made during the summer period. Michel Preud’Homme wanted Felipe Avenattie of Kortrijk at all costs and it worked. Vanheusden was also purchased after last year’s luster with success. A very remarkable player is Anthony Limbombe who comes over from Nantes on a rental basis and will play again under Preud’Homme (then at Club Brugge). Among the departures, Marin and Djenepo are the most remarkable names since they were unable to retain them after very nice offers from other clubs (Marin – Ajax & Djenepo – Southampton).
In the practice duels, Standard already showed that it is easy to find the way to the goal. It only lost one game and won 2-1 in the last training pot against Nice. According to Preud’Homme there was the team that is probably the strongest according to him. It remains to be seen whether he will also use that line-up against Cercle to start the competition. It is already clear that Preud’Homme wants to go to the championship. Although he indicated that not everything is on track with them, “but that will be my perfectionism”.
