Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Prediction & Betting tips
The fourth round in the Premier League starts with a London derby between Chelsea and Crystal Palace. The visiting side from east London has collected two points more than Chelsea, but the West Londoners are the favorites for this home game at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea:
With just one win in the last four games, Chelsea is out of shape. Frank Lampard’s side has been taking on Liverpool, Barnsley, West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham Hotspur for the past two weeks. In the league matches with Liverpool (0-2 loss) and West Bromwich Albion (3-3 draw), Chelsea lost points. In the Carabao Cup, The Blues managed to win convincingly 6-0 against Barnsley a week and a half ago. On Tuesday evening, Chelsea was eliminated in the eighth finals of the cup tournament by Tottenham Hotspur (1-1, loss after penalties).
Chelsea was the big favorite for the game against Tottenham, which, unlike Chelsea, mainly played substitutes. Lampard chose to start with a strong team, but that did not help. The two bright spots of the cup duel with the townsman was the debut of Édouard Mendy in the Chelsea goal and the first goal of Timo Werner for The Blues. Chelsea’s results are not what Lampard hopes and it is up to The Blues to change that against Crystal Palace. Chelsea managed to win the last three home games against Crystal Palace, although it is very questionable whether the West Londoners can continue that series in its current form.
Crystal Palace:
For Crystal Palace, the away game at Chelsea will immediately become the second tough away game in a row. The South Londoners started the current season with a game at Old Trafford against Manchester United. Against all odds, Crystal Palace managed to book a victory in Manchester, as Roy Hodgson’s team managed to give the home team a 1-3 defeat. A great result for Crystal Palace, especially when you consider that The Eagles had also won 1-0 against Southampton a week earlier. As a result, the counter at Crystal Palace was six points after the first two games.
After three games, that counter is still at six points. Crystal Palace was unable to get a result in the home game against Everton last weekend. Early in the game, Hodgson’s team was 0-1 behind. In the 26th minute, Cheikhou Kouyaté headed in the equalizing goal on behalf of Crystal Palace. Bad luck of the day, however, was Joel Ward, as he made two hands in his own penalty area. The first handball was not penalized, the second was. Everton forward Richarlison then fired in the penalty kick and Ward played a negative lead in his 250th game for Crystal Palace.
