Chelsea vs Southampton Prediction & Betting tips
Chelsea and Southampton are the only two clubs to play at the traditional time of 15:00 on Saturday afternoon. At Stamford Bridge, Hakim Ziyech can make the official debut on behalf of Chelsea, which lost 0-2 at home against Southampton last season. A preview of a game between the numbers seven and eleven of the Premier League!
Chelsea:
Frank Lampard’s Chelsea is in seventh place at the start of the second league block. The West Londoners collected a total of seven points in their first four games. Chelsea started the season with a victory at Brighton (1-3), then lost at home to Liverpool (0-2) and were left with four points from the last two league games against West Bromwich Albion (3-3 draw) and Crystal Palace (4-0 win). The number of loss points for Chelsea is thus already at five so early in the season. Fortunately for The Blues, all other English top teams have also lost points and so there is not a man overboard yet.
Now that club football is starting again, they can prepare for three very tough weeks at Chelsea. Over the next 21 days, Chelsea will play a total of seven games, four in the Premier League and three in the Champions League. Fortunately, Lampard currently has an almost fit selection, because only Billy Gilmour will be in the rag basket for the coming weeks. It also means that Hakim Ziyech has recovered from a knee injury and can make his official debut for Chelsea against Southampton. The Moroccan playmaker is one of many newcomers to Lampard’s team.
Suspected Chelsea line-up: Mendy – Azpilicueta, Silva, Zouma, Chilwell – Jorginho, Kanté – Ziyech, Havertz, Mount-Werner
Chelsea injuries: Billy Gilmour
Doubts Chelsea: Edouard Mendy, N’Golo Kanté, Ben Chilwell
Southampton:
Southampton has collected one point less than Chelsea in four league games and is therefore six points. Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl will look back with satisfaction on Southampton’s first league block and will mainly be pleased with his team’s last two games. In those two games, Southampton managed to beat Burnley (0-1) and West Bromwich Albion (2-0). With those victories, The Saints are now in the middle of the Premier League. Southampton’s first two games, away at Crystal Palace (1-0) and at home against Tottenham Hotspur (2-5), were fairly unjustly lost for the club from the port city.
At Southampton they hope to be able to continue the last two duels before the international period. With Chelsea, Everton and Aston Villa, Southampton will face opponents who are currently performing well in competition for the next three weeks. The Saints do have fond memories of their last two games at Stamford Bridge, as they were not lost. Two seasons ago, Hasenhüttl’s team drew 0-0 and last season the Austrian and his team recorded a 0-2 victory in West London. Michael Obafemi and Nathan Redmond scored the goals at Stamford Bridge last season.
Suspected Southampton Lineup: McCarthy – Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Bertrand – Walcott, Ward-Prowse, Romeu, Redmond – Ings, Adams
Southampton injuries: Stuart Armstrong Stuart Armstrong (corona)
Doubts Southampton: Mohamed Salisu
