Coventry vs QPR Prediction & Betting tips
Coventry is back in the championship – for the first time since the 2011/12 season, the Sky Blues are back in the English second division. In the last season Coventry City benefited from the season break in League One and rose early with 67 points from 34 games in the championship. There was the first defeat at the start of the season last week.
During the week there was also the EFL Cup, the English league cup. On the second day of the championship, Coventry City will play their home game against Queens Park Rangers. As in the previous season, the Sky Blues will continue to compete at St Andrew’s, the home of Birmingham City.
The best bookmakers see Coventry as easy favorites against QPR. In contrast to the home side, Queens Park Rangers celebrated a successful start to the season and won a home win over Nottingham on the first day of the 2020/21 Championship. The fact that the clean slate was kept is definitely a sense of achievement for QPR.
Coventry:
Coventry City wants to avoid a direct relegation to League One. The primary goal this season is clearly laid out with relegation. Whether the big promotion coup will actually succeed under head coach Mark Robins is not yet foreseeable. At the start of the season there was at least one defeat at Bristol City (1: 2).
Although the Sky Blues did not show a bad performance at the start of the season, the points were not won at Bristol City. For long stretches it was an equal match in which the decisive goal was not scored until the 82nd minute of the game. During the week, the second setback for Coventry City followed. The Robins team was eliminated from the EFL Cup.
As the starting eleven decisions of the long-time Sky Blues coach show, there was a lot of rotation in the cup game against Gillingham. Not a single player from the league starting XI was used in the Cup starting XI. Only in the course of the game were top performers used. This at least avoided the double burden before the Friday match against QPR.
In contrast to other teams from the Championship, Coventry has hardly invested in the transfer market in the current transfer period. Most of the players came free of charge or were signed on loan. Just under 1.50 million euros were spent on Gustavo Hamer, midfielder of PEC Zwolle.
What changes can be expected in the starting XI of the Sky Blues on Friday evening cannot yet be foreseen. However, it would by no means be absurd if the 50-year-old Englishman also included some players from the cup game in the starting line-up against QPR.
QPR:
During the summer, Queens Park Rangers had a number of serious departures. Many top performers, especially those on the offensive, were given up. Although investments have also been made in the transfer market, it remains difficult to assess whether these newcomers can close the large offensive gaps. At the start of the season, the Rangers made a positive impression.
At home against Nottingham Forest there was a 2-0 home win. What was particularly convincing was the performance of the otherwise vulnerable back team. Not a single enemy shot went to QPR’s goal. If you consider that last season an average of two goals per game were conceded, it was a remarkable defensive performance.
It is quite possible that the balance between offensive and defensive play will be found this season. Last season, the Rangers’ strong attacking football was associated with major defensive losses. With the tactical finesse of Mark Warburton, QPR can have realistic ambitions for promotion this season.
After Freeman left last summer and the most recent departure this summer, all eyes are now on Ilias Chair. The Moroccan midfielder is set to become the linchpin of the QPR offensive. Over the course of the season, it remains to be seen whether the Chair can lift that weight on its shoulders.
On the first match day, the Moroccan underlined his strong performance with a goal in added time. It is quite possible that the next scorer points will also be in the away game in Birmingham. Whether Coventry vs. QPR has confirmed a forecast for the score, but remains to be seen.
