CSKA Moscow vs Espanyol Prediction & Betting tips
CSKA Moscow hopes to get its European aspirations back on track at its own VEB Arena on Thursday evening at the expense of Espanyol. The Russians lost their first group match in the Europa League, and now have to take points anyway. The Spaniards also desperately need the points, although they currently have more important (relegation) issues on their mind.
CSKA Moscow:
CSKA Moscow is in top form in its own country, and with 25 points from eleven rounds it can call itself the leader of the Russian Premier League. The Muscovites, however, had a dramatic start to the Europa League, because two weeks ago they were shown a visit to Bulgarian Ludogorets with a 5-1 defeat all over the field. The red-blue ones are playing with fire, because if it goes wrong again on Thursday against Espanyol, the European adventure is almost certainly over before it has started.
The 5-1 defeat against Ludogorets was an incident, because outside of that shameful defeat, CSKA Moscow is busy with a great season. The Russians are busy with a nice series of five competition victories in a row, and they only had to give themselves up once in their own VEB Arena this calendar year. Under trainer Viktor Goncharenko, the Russians play with a lot of pressure and pressure, with the rough diamonds Nikola Vlasic and Fedor Chalov as absolute flavors. The disadvantage of this way of playing is that the pipe often runs empty after roughly 60-70 minutes of football, which makes De Soldaten particularly vulnerable in the final phase. Most of the time, however, CSKA Moscow already has a large lead by then, just like last weekend in the away game against Ural (0-3 win).
Espanyol:
Espanyol is back in the Europa League after an absence of thirteen years, but the Spaniards cannot really enjoy their European adventure. The club from Barcelona has had a bad start to the competition and is in the relegation zone of La Liga with just five points from seven rounds. Last weekend De Parakeets lost at home with 0-2 against Real Valladolid. Trainer David Gallego is under heavy fire, and the players were treated to a whistling flute concert by their own fans.
Of course it is nice for Espanyol that it can now briefly forget its problems in its own country, but it is obvious that Gallego looks ahead with a glance at the relegation cracker of upcoming weekend visiting PhD candidate Real Mallorca. There is no official date (yet) for an ultimatum, but if Espanyol also loses that match, I think it is very likely that Gallego will have to leave the field. The Spaniards have boarded the plane with largely the well-known names, but I expect that they will take up a glorified B-team in Moscow. Also two weeks ago, in the 1-1 draw against the Hungarian Ferencvaros, the blue and white kept several strongholds aside.
