Denmark vs Iceland Prediction & Betting tips
Four years ago the balance of power in Europe was completely different. While Denmark, after all European champions in 1992, did not even qualify for EURO 2016 in France, Iceland stormed the quarter-finals there and knocked England out of the tournament. While the Danes are now back in the European Championship in 2021, the Icelanders failed in the final of the playoffs to Hungary on Thursday evening.
Icelanders who have been destroyed on the ground travel to Copenhagen with their heads hanging down. In the run-up to the game between Denmark and Iceland, the odds of the bookmakers clearly move towards the home side, as the odds comparison of the betting base shows.
After all, Denmark won all of their last four internationals and remained completely clean in the last five games. They beat Iceland 3-0 away in the first leg on October 11, 2020. For the Icelanders it was one of five defeats in the last six internationals alone, which is why we don’t think they have any chance of scoring points in the second leg.
Instead, it is even possible to bet on a victory for the Danish national football team with at least two goals difference in Denmark against Iceland.
Denmark :
The Danish national football team was able to win the European Championship once in 1992, but was not qualified in two of the last three European Championship finals as well as in the 2014 World Cup.
In the end, however, the Rød-hvide (in German: the red-whites) presented themselves in extremely strong shape. Not only did the 2018 World Cup make it to the round of 16, where the eventual runner-up world champion Croatia only narrowly suffered a penalty shoot-out. Rather, Denmark also qualified confidently for EURO 2021.
Without a single defeat, Kasper Hjulmand’s men got through Group D of the European Championship qualifying 2021 unscathed and secured the direct ticket for the big tournament with four wins and four draws.
At the same time, the Rød-hvide remained undefeated in the first edition of the UEFA Nations League and thus made it to the top division ahead of Wales and Ireland as the first in Group B4. The previous appearances showed that Denmark is absolutely competitive there too. The Danes took seven out of twelve possible points and recently even defeated England 1-0 away.
This means that there are currently four international wins in a row, with the Danes’ defensive position in particular being perfect. For five international matches in a row, Rød-hvide have not conceded a goal, so they are going into the match against Iceland with a big chest.
The successful dress rehearsal underlines the fact that Denmark’s tip 1 against Iceland is under a good star. While the guests gambled away their participation in the European Championship in the final of the playoffs, the Danes defeated neighboring Sweden in a friendly 2-0.
Iceland :
The Icelandic national soccer team has experienced a veritable fairy tale over the past four years. First the football dwarf sensationally managed to qualify for the increased EURO 2016, where the journey ultimately went to the quarter-finals.
And then the Vikings also qualified for the 2018 World Cup, for which some heavyweights were again left behind in the qualification. With the preliminary round from there, however, began the creeping farewell to the top.
When the Nations League was hosted for the first time, Iceland was classified in League A due to its recent successes, but lost all four games there against Switzerland and Belgium with 1:13 goals. The league remained only because of the restructuring of the competition. Two games before the end of the Nations League, it is now sealed.
Four defeats and 2:11 goals are currently recorded, which means that the Icelanders are already seven points behind third place. Mathematically, it is no longer possible to remain in League A, which is why the focus of Erik Hamrén’s team was fully on the playoffs for the 2021 European Championship.
There Iceland prevailed 2-1 at home on October 8, 2020 against Romania and bought the ticket for the final against Hungary. The 1-0 lead at break was not enough. Two late goals conceded in the 88th and 92nd minute sealed the end of the Vikings, who had their fifth defeat in their last six international matches in this game.
So it’s no wonder that in the run-up to the game between Denmark and Iceland, the odds of the betting providers speak clearly against the Icelanders.
