Dundalk vs Qarabag Prediction & Betting tips
In the second heat of the Champions League two Irish national champions face each other with the Irish Dundalk and the Azerbaijani Qarabag. Only one of them may, however, continue to dream of a European champions ball starting ticket after this diptych.
Dundalk:
Dundalk was crowned champion of Ireland last year, and may therefore try again this summer to reach the Champions League main tournament. In the 70s and 80s of the last century, The Lilywhites regularly appeared in the then European Cup I, but since the establishment of the Champions League, the team never managed to qualify for the European champion ball.
The best football players in Ireland usually opt for a career in professional English football, so coach Vince Perth has to deal mainly with players who have been overlooked by English clubs. “We are the obvious underdog, but I think we can stunt,” said US President Michael Treacy. “Our players are not afraid of anyone.” In the previous round, Dundalk crawled through the eye of the needle. No scores were scored against Riga from Latvia either at home or away, after which the Irish were the happiest in the penalty shootout series. The draw against Qarabag did not really suit the Irish, because it will cost them 150,000 euros to charter a plane up and down to Azerbaijan. Treacy is not that worried about that: ‘This is a great experience that the players learn a lot from. Someday we want to be just as successful in Europe as Qarabag. ”
Qarabag:
Qarabag is no longer unknown in European football. The Azerbaijani have managed to qualify for the European main tournament in the last five seasons. In 2017, it even reached the group stage of the Champions League, in which it managed to keep Atletico Madrid on a draw both at home and away. Qarabag therefore has plenty of experience at this level.
Qarabag has considerable capital and therefore has access to a relatively strong team. The new purchase Jaime Romero has experience in La Liga and Serie A, mercenary Ailton played with Sporting Braga in the Primeira Liga last season, and Michel and Magaye Gueye have a history in the Premier League. In addition, trainer Gurban Gurbanov, who has been at the helm of The Horsemen since 2008, has nine fully-fledged internationals from Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani competition is not exactly leading, but Qarabag is definitely a team to be reckoned with.
