Empoli vs Spal Prediction & Betting tips
The match between Empoli and SPAL is a true relegation cracker. Empoli is eighteenth and is currently the main candidate to relegate together with Chievo and Frosinone, SPAL is thirteenth but has only six points more. In the earlier encounter this season, the three points were fought. Empoli was 1-2 ahead with the break. When SPAL had ten men in the 49th minute, the game seemed to be played, but with a man less the team grabbed another point (2-2).
Empoli:
Empoli visited Atalanta last Monday that still has a chance to win a Champions League ticket. The difference between the two teams was enormous, and from time to time Empoli was put away as if it were a Series C team. The first chance of the game was for the visiting team, but Diego Farias did not get the ball past Atalanta goalkeeper Gollini. This was also the only save that Gollini had to make in this game, in the remainder of the game only half of Empoli was played.
Already after nine minutes Hans Hateboer should have put the Bergamo team ahead with a header for open goal. Within the half hour a number of big chances followed, such as Atalanta got three shots on goal during a scrimmage but the goalkeeper and his defenders were always on time to keep the ball off the line. This first half hour was typical of the game, in total Atalanta shot no fewer than 32 shots, of which eighteen on goal. The obvious man of the game was Empoli goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski, who made eighteen saves.
Empoli already lost two players on Monday in the first half. Luca Antonelli and Diego Farias both retired with an injury, Manuel Pasqual and Dimitri Oberlin fell in for them and also appear to be their substitutes this weekend. Domenico Maietta returns from a suspension. He will take his place again in the center of the defense instead of Dimitrios Nikolaou, who made his debut against Atalanta.
SPAL:
SPAL was visited last weekend by a stripped down Juventus, which had enough of a point to become a champion and especially saved players in the run-up to the upcoming match in the Champions League. In a rather poor first half, Juventus scored from one of the few opportunities. SPAL clearly played in the first half for a 0-0 but in the second half got rid of all hesitation. Early in the second half it made it 1-1, Kevin Bonifazi headed in a corner after he outsmarted Juve-debutant Kastanos. In the 75th minute, the Ferrara team even took the lead after Alessandro Murgia and Sergio Floccari turned two other debutants off a falling ball. SPAL was the only team in the right-hand row that managed to win last round of play and so did good business in the fight against relegation.
Trainer Leonardo Semplici complimented his team and waved comments that Juventus negatively influenced the relegation battle in this way. “There were nine internationals in the base and even Bernardeschi was still in,” said the coach.
