Excelsior vs Helmond Prediction & Betting tips
Like degradants De Graafschap and NAC Breda, Excelsior could have joined the Kitchen Champion Division with three out of nine. However, this did not happen and the Kralingers are in sixth place after three games. Opponent Helmond Sport had lower expectations and started the season very weakly.
Excelsior:
The Ricardo Moniz team started the new season pretty well. Where the club had to play against FC Utrecht and AZ last season, Excelsior started this season against the youth teams. The first match was won 2-0 against Jong FC Utrecht thanks to goals from new striker Joël Zwarts. Excelsior took a 2-0 lead at the AFAS Training Complex, but it became unnecessarily exciting. In the end, the Ster van Kralingen won 2-1. The football left something to be desired, but mainly in an attacking respect Excelsior seems to be an added value for the Kitchen Champion Division.
In the third round, Telstar and Excelsior met in Velsen-Zuid. Both teams were undefeated and Telstar had not even had any goals against. The club beat FC Den Bosch and played a draw against Jong AZ. So Moniz was warned, but his team also failed to score against Telstar. Andries Jonker’s team was the better match, but thanks to Telstar keeper Anthony Swolfs, Excelsior didn’t stand a chance. The Kralingers started to play more offensive to force a goal, but through the holes there were goals. Excelsior lost 3-0.
Helmond Sport:
The problems are piling up in Helmond. Rob Alflen had a very bad season last season and was last in the Kitchen Champion Division. In the meantime, the competition has been playing three rounds and Wil Boessen’s team is now without a win. In the first round Helmond Sport achieved good results against FC Volendam. Contrary to expectations, the Cat Swatters grabbed a point. In the second round, the team was hit hard by NAC Breda. At halftime it was already 4-0 for NAC and Helmond Sport was humiliated. Helmond Sport eventually lost 5-1.
After this frustrating defeat, Helmond Sport wanted to of course revanch itself with a home win against Almere City. This seemed a difficult task, but when Almere City defender Bram van Vlerken got red for the kick-off in the nineteenth minute, a victory suddenly seemed feasible. Captain Ferry de Regt, however, pulled on an Almere City shirt and Helmond Sport was awarded a penalty. This penalty kick was used and then Boessen went into the rest with a delay. Substitute Bram Zwanen tied the score in the second half and then his team went on to win. This one did not come and the match ended in 1-1.
The club has also seen that something needs to be done if the performance has to be better than last season. That is why the management of Helmond Sport is busy strengthening the team. Bodi Brusselers is coming back to Helmond, but especially the arrival of Jeff Stans seemed a very good move. Due to the departure of Koen Wesdorp, a reinforcement had to be achieved and the experienced player seems to be taking the place. He can make his debut next weekend against his former employer.
