FC Volendam vs Excelsior Prediction & Betting tips
FC Volendam is currently on post-competition places and would like to keep it that way. Nevertheless, Excelsior will try to narrow the gap. What can we expect?
FC Volendam:
The team from Volendam were close to promotion last season, but the corona virus and the decisions of the KNVB and ECV put the club back on the ground. For example, FC Volendam had to try again this season under Wim Jonk. After a poor start, however, Jonk managed to get his 4-3-3 formation running. An unbeaten series was put down in the months of September, October and November of no less than eleven (!) Games. This included beautiful victories of 7-1, 5-1, 6-2 and 6-0. Title candidates De Graafschap and Almere City were also unable to win. Still, this series came to an end just before Christmas and since then Jonk’s team has seemed hugely unstable. From a victory against leader Cambuur to a draw against FC Dordrecht and a defeat against MVV.
Wim Jonk had to really let that changeable series come to an end and he saw opportunities with a change of tactics. The 4-3-3 system and total football were put aside for a while and last week Jonk took on Go Ahead Eagles with a 3-5-2 formation. The Eagles turned out not to be completely set up for this and had a very difficult time. Italian Inter mercenary Samuele Mulattieri turned out to be worth gold with two goals and one assist. FC Volendam achieved a fiercely fought result at the Adelaarshorst.
Excelsior:
Anyone who thought that Excelsior had an unprecedented season after disappointing performances in the previous season now knows that things can always get crazier. Marinus Dijkhuizen’s team was seen as a possible outsider for the title, but was still in fourteenth place a few weeks ago. Six consecutive games were lost, but the board kept faith in Dijkhuizen. Perhaps this is due to the strong performance in the TOTO KNVB Cup. In it, it consecutively defeated Helmond Sport (4-0), PEC Zwolle (2-0) and MVV (2-2), making it next week in the quarterfinals against Vitesse. The tide also seemed to turn after two victories in the competition.
When De Kralingers received a visit from last week FC Den Bosch, Excelsior seemed on its way to a monster score. After 47 minutes it was already 3-0 for the Rotterdam team. In retrospect, Excelsior turned out to only have a supporting role in the big Jizz Hornkamp show. The FC Den Bosch striker scored four times and thus turned the score from 3-0 to 4-4. A typical Kitchen Champion Division match with Excelsior as the big moral loser. Captain Sander Fischer fell through the basket with two goals and was far from convincing. Norwegian youth international Sondre Skogen is unable to play and train thanks to the corona virus, but will get the chance to show himself in the Van Donge & de Roo Stadium. And if the defensive fumbling continues like this, it won’t be long before he gets this chance.
