Fenerbahce vs Zenit Petersburg Prediction & Betting tips
The Sukru Saracoglu in Istanbul will be a witches’ cauldron again on Tuesday evening when Fenerbahce gets a visit from Zenit Saint Petersburg. The stakes are a place in the eighth finals of the Europa League.
Fenerbahce:
The Turkish Fenerbahce is experiencing one of her worst seasons in club history. The position of Phillip Cocu was, of course, unsustainable with only three wins in fifteen games, but also under the current coach Ersun Yanal the top club from Istanbul continues to struggle. Last weekend, the Turkish Super Lig lost 1-0 at Kayserispor and attacker Roberto Soldado and midfielder Tolgay Arslan were sent off with a red card. Yanal was obviously not to be enjoyed, but Soldado and Arslan confessed guilt by imposing a fine on themselves. “It was even higher than the fine that I had in mind,” the coach said.
Despite the poor results in his own country, Fenerbahce is doing fine in the Europa League. In a group with, among others, Dinamo Zagreb and Anderlecht, the Turks were able to seize second place and they did not even have to give in the three group duels in their own Sukru Saracoglu. The big question, however, is to what extent Yanal is prepared to draw up his team, because in the Super Lig the fallen top club is only three points above the relegation zone. The home game against Konyaspor next Saturday is at least as important as the home match against Zenit St. Petersburg.
Zenit Saint Petersburg:
Zenit St. Petersburg can of course count on the financial support of main sponsor Gazprom and in this way has access to several big names. The Russian leader, however, could not prevent the Argentinian playmaker Leandro Paredes going to Paris Saint-Germain for over forty million euros. With, among others, the Colombian international Wilmar Barrios (Boca Juniors) and Sardar Azmoun (Rubin), the Russians also did not show up on the winter transfer market. Especially from playmaker Azmoun, also known as The Iranian Messi, much is expected in St. Petersburg.
Yet it is difficult to estimate where Zenit St. Petersburg currently stands. The Russian Premier League is still silent because of the winter break, as a result of which the blue-whites have not played a competitive game since December 13 last year. Of course, the Russians maintained their condition through various exhibition games, but that is not the same as playing duels in which there is really something at stake.
