CD Walter Ferretti became champion of the regular season in the last Apertura, the first of two half-yearly seasons in Nicaragua. So there was no title for the black-red, but the direct right to start for the semi-finals of the championship playoffs. Despite a good starting position from the semi-final first leg, CD Walter Ferretti had to cut sail in the second leg against city rivals Managua FC.
In the Clausura there is now the next attempt to win the title. So far, the black-reds have won the championship four times from the Nicaraguan capital. Since the 2017 season, however, the four-time champion from Managua has not won the title. The Clausura 2020 started with some setbacks for CD Walter Ferretti. Just in time for the end of the regular season, the black and red have picked up speed and are already in playoff form. Most recently, Ferretti won four of the last five league games, scoring 14 goals in total – seven of them in the home game against Chinandega.

In total, the blue-whites have 34 points in the overall table. Deportivo Las Sabanas thus only separates a single point from the red zone in the overall table. In the worst scenario, Las Sabanas could face relegation to the second division if they lost two games on the last two matchdays. But Real Madriz (9th) and Deportivo Ocotal (10th) have to win the last two games in the Clausura.

With ten goals, Jorge Luis Vanegas’ team is the weakest offensive in the league; with 28 goals conceded the worst defense of the Clausura.
