Ghana vs Benin Prediction & Betting tips
Last Tuesday, Ghana and Benin also play for the first time at the Africa Cup. Ghana is one of the top favorites for tournament win, but meets a dangerous opponent in Benin.
Ghana:
Ghana is keen to make the home front proud this summer, by finally winning the Africa Cup again after 37 years. “We have been at the top for some twelve or thirteen years,” said captain Andre Ayew. “Almost every Africa Cup we reach the semi-final or the final. We are ready for it anyway. We have been well prepared in Dubai for the past three weeks, and we cannot wait to start the tournament. ”
Ghana is gambling on experience this summer, because Ayew, Asamoah Gyan, Christian Atsu, John Boye, Kwadwo Asamoah and Jonathan Mensah all have four Africa Cup participations in their legs. The Black Stars, however, have to work on their completion, because in the preparation they did not score against both Namibia (0-1 defeat) and South Africa (0-0). National coach Kwasi Appiah will soon have to find a way to get his faltering vanguard working again.
Benin:
In her previous three participations in the Africa Cup, Benin never managed to survive the group stage, but this summer the country is going for eternal fame. “Benin has never managed to win a race at the Africa Cup, so if we succeed in that, we will make history,” said attacker Steve Mounie. Prior to this tournament, the Football Association seemed to be planning to change the nickname of the national football team – The Squirrels – to a more terrifying animal, but that plan was eventually swept off the table. Mounie: ‘I don’t care. Many larger animal species stay at home, but we are nevertheless nice. Squirrels are strong animals. ”
Mounie, who relegated last season with Huddersfield Town from the English Premier League, is by far the best known name at Benin. He will also have to take the lead in the opening game against Ghana, as captain and record-international Stephane Sessegnon has been suspended. Benin is in any case in good shape, as it managed to win all its international matches this year with victories over Togo (2-1), Guinea (1-0) and Mauritania (3-1). In that last game, Mounie signed for a hat trick.
