Hull City vs Aston Villa Prediction & Betting tips
Aston Villa relegated from the Premier League in 2016 and Hull City did so the year after. Both teams immediately hoped to promote back to the highest level in England. That worked for the one less well than the other and so this is the second year in a row that Hull and Villa meet in the Championship.
Hull City:
So far, Hull City has had the least favorable transfer period of the twenty-four teams in the Championship. The club that won European football in 2014 saw many strong holders walk out of the door and is preparing for a few departing players. In recent weeks, Sebastian Larsson, Abel Hernandez, Allan McGregor, Michael Dawson and David Meyler have already left and Polish international Kamil Grosicki is also in the final week before the closing of the transfer market still on a departure from Kingston upon Hull.
The many empty holes in the selection have not been filled to the least by the board of Hull. Reece Burke has been taken over from West Ham United for a small transfer fee. Although Burke is a promising defender, the question remains to what extent Hull can build directly on him. In addition, Jordy de Wijs was taken over from PSV. The central defender who was at Excelsior’s base last season said that he always had the ambition to get started in England when he switched, and with his transfer to Hull he managed that.
De Wijs has to deal with Markus Henriksen at Hull. The Norwegian played five years for AZ and has a rich past in the Eredivisie. Henriksen made the switch to The Tigers a year and a half ago. Last year Henriksen came to 31 matches at Hull and due to the departure of captain Dawson to Nottingham Forest, the 26-year-old midfielder has been named the new team leader of Hull City.
Aston Villa:
It remains to be seen whether Jack Grealish is still under contract with Aston Villa in a week. The young Brit is one of the most promising players in England and is in the spotlight of Tottenham Hotspur, the club that has not yet issued this transfer period. Steve Bruce, coach of Villa, however, yesterday indicated that The Spurs in no way near the asking price with their past bid. For the time being it seems that Grealish remains a Villan.
Where Grealish is still under contract, John Terry left Birmingham. The Chelsea legend was captain of Villa last year and had to lead Bruce’s team to the Premier League. That failed, however, and so Terry left a transfer free after a year. James Chester has been appointed as new captain. In the period before Terry signed a contract for Aston Villa, the central defender was also the captain, but had to hand over the band to the experienced Englishman.
