Iceland vs Belgium Prediction & Betting tips
An unequal duel takes place in Reykjavik between Iceland and Belgium. The home side are bottom of the group and rightly so, while the Diables Rouges is the first in the world rankings, although not all of them this time.
The Icelanders conceded a 3-0 draw against Denmark last weekend, which means that coach Erik Hamren’s selection is still pointless. Even against the weak offensive Danes, who could not manage a single goal in their two group games before, three goals were conceded.
Belgium will also run into rage: In the guest appearance at England, a defeat was recorded for the first time in almost two years. For the match between Iceland and Belgium, the tip includes a hit by Michy Batshuayi.
Iceland:
Not much is left of the Icelandic national team of the last European Championship in France in 2016 or the following World Cup in Russia in 2018. After qualifying for both finals for the first time and at least surviving the group phase at the European Championships, the Icelanders are now significantly weaker.
Last week the qualification for the next European finals was ensured by a narrow home win against Romania, but all three previous games in the Nations League were lost.
Only one hit was scored, which is why the attack can be described as largely harmless. Alfred Finnbogason is one example. The Augsburg striker has been injured many times in recent years, which is why he can hardly match the quality of his earlier years.
In the previous year, Finnbogason was already a long way off from its multiple double-digit goal balances with the kickers from the Fugger city. In the current season of the Bundesliga, he has also not yet scored a goal, with the attacker even slipping into the role of a substitute.
In addition, Aron Fridjonsson, the only goalscorer in the competition, is currently not available, which is why the remaining notable attacker from Everton and two-time goal-getter Gylfi Sigurdsson will often be on his own in the match against Romania.
In view of this and the currently comparatively less accurate guests, the odds for a maximum of three goals in the match between Iceland and Belgium are also interesting.
Belgium:
When the Belgians lost to Switzerland for the last time before last weekend in November 2018, no fewer than a dozen wins followed. However, this series already broke in last week’s friendly against Ivory Coast, when it was only enough to make it 1-1, and now it went bankrupt against England.
With 1: 2 the troops of the Spanish trainer Roberto Martinez had to admit defeat against the Three Lions. In contrast to the friendly match, the Catalan returned to his first team, but that didn’t change the defeat at Wembley.
One reason is that some regulars are currently not on board; even for the excellent Belgian squad this is apparently too much in total.
Regular goalkeeper Courtois and his substitute van Crombrugge, the Hazard brothers and Napoli striker Dries Mertens cannot appear at the moment. The last-named striker has to pass due to a quarantine measure in Italy.
Furthermore, the mastermind in midfield Kevin de Bruyne is weak at the moment. Above all, his skills as a template provider have currently dried up: for five games he has not managed to assist at his club Manchester City or in the Rode Duivels jersey.
The redhead set the record for most assists from Thierry Henry in 2003 with 20 assists last season of the Premier League. Now the two-time “Playmaker of the Year” in the top British league has left early due to physical complaints and will therefore also not appear.
