Ipswich vs Fulham Prediction & Betting tips
It’s been over two years since the last Ipswich Town-Fulham clash. The two teams now meet each other in the second round of the Carabao Cup. At the beginning of 2018 it became 4-1 for Fulham. Will the Londoners also win in 2020?
Ipswich Town:
Still under the leadership of Paul Lambert, Ipswich Town has started the new League One season with a victory over Wigan Athletic. Last season, The Tractor Boys finished in a disappointing eleventh place at England’s third tier. Town started out promising and remained unbeaten in the first eleven rounds of play. After that, the rough came into play and Lambert’s team dropped far down the rankings. Due to the corona virus, the League One was not played and Town no longer had a chance to close the eight-point gap with the top six in the remaining seven rounds of play.
Last weekend, the first round in the League One was completed. Wigan, relegated from the Championship last season and thus a big name in League One, did not recover from goals from Teddy Bishop and Gwion Edwards. With the 2-0 victory over Wigan, Ipswich Town has started the new season excellently. In addition, The Tractor Boys achieved a convincing victory in the first round of the Carabao Cup. At Portman Road, Bristol Rovers was beaten 3-0. The Rovers also come out on the third level and were already 2-0 behind at half time. This weekend, the two teams will face each other again, this time for the second round of the competition.
Fulham:
On its return to the Premier League, Fulham has started anything but convincing. Scott Parker’s squad hosted Arsenal at Craven Cottage. The townsman took the lead within ten minutes and eventually expanded this lead to a 3-0 victory. The starting eleven against Arsenal was very similar to the selection that secured a place in the Premier League via the play-offs at Wembley last year. However, this may change in the coming weeks. Last week it was announced that Kenny Tete and Alphonse Areola will be added to the selection. Tete has been bought from Olympique Lyon for just over three million euros and Areola is rented from Paris Saint Germain until the end of the season.
Opposite the arrival of Areola is the temporary departure of Marcus Bettinelli. The 28-year-old goalkeeper will be rented to Middlesbrough until the end of the season. In addition to Alfie Mawson and Steven Sessegnon – both rented to Bristol City – Bettinelli is the third player of The Cottagers to temporarily start working at a club in the Championship next season.
Last season, Fulham got no further than the second round of the Carabao Cup. Southampton was too strong for The Cottagers with 0-1. The year before, the London team came to the eighth finals of the cup tournament. At the time, Fulham lost to Manchester City, the eventual winner of the Carabao Cup this season.
