Lazio vs AS Roma Prediction & Betting tips
On Saturday the Serie A enthusiast will be spoiled with the match between Juventus and Napoli, on Sunday the De Derby della Capitale is on the program. Both teams from the capital have had a disappointing season and have to show more this year. Last season the derby was twice a prey for the ‘home team’. The first match at the Stadio Olimpico ended in 3-1 for AS Roma, the second in 3-0 for Lazio Roma.
Lazio:
Last season Lazio came no further than eighth place but saved the season by dragging in the Coppa Italia. In the final, it completely defeated the match against stunt team Atalanta and a goal by Milinkovic-Savic in the final phase was enough for a cup win and a ticket for the Europa League. It was one of the few highlights in the Serbian season. In the 2017-2018 season he and Luis Alberto were the tastemaker in the midfield, last season both men did not get close to the level that they achieved then. Together they scored nine goals in the Serie A last season, not even half the total number of the year before (23). Also striker Ciro Immobile was insufficiently served and therefore scored only fifteen goals compared to the 29 of the year before.
In the opening game of this season, Lazio did show a good drive forward. With only one new basic player compared to last season (center right Manuel Lazzari was taken over from SPAL), the Romans created a chance of a chance in the Sampdoria-side match. Especially in the second half, the Biancocelesti were dominant and they managed to express this in goals. Ciro Immobile was the celebrated man with two goals, but Alberto was also important with two assists.
AS Roma:
Last season coach Eusebio di Francesco was unable to get his Roma talking. Claudio Ranieri made a last effort to lead Roma towards the Champions League but came too late. This season Paulo Fonseca is at the helm, the Portuguese who brought the title to Shaktar Donetsk three years in a row. He has to deal with a young midfield now that De Rossi has left after many years of loyal service and N’Zonzi is being let. Defender Kostas Manolas also made the switch to Napoli. Lorenzo Pellegrini will play a key role in midfield and of course started in the opening weekend in the starting line-up, in addition youngsters Kluivert, Zaniolo and Under also got a basic place. Goalkeeper Pau Lopez was the only newcomer to start the home game against Genoa, purchases Veretout, Diawara and Mancini and mercenary Zappacosta all started on the bench.
In the familiar line-up, Roma got off to a good start. Cengiz Under made the 1-0 after only six minutes of play, the Turk completed a solo with a shot in the top corner. Roma was the parent party for the entire match, but Genoa always came to the same level. In the 1-1, three Genoa attackers were given complete freedom of the Roma defense, after which Dzeko quickly put things back in order with the 2-1. Just before half-time the Roma defense again went very wrong, now it was Juan Jesus with a rash tackle for which the referee had to give a penalty. In the second half we saw the same game image. Kolarov scored the 3-2 from a beautiful free kick, again the lead was canceled out by weak defense. This time, the entire defense of the Giallorossi looked at the ball as Ghiglione crossed the ball from the right. Because of this they overlooked the incoming Kouame, the young striker of Genoa scored in a free position with a pike dive. The 3-3 proves that Fonseca has a lot to tinker with his defense.
