Legia (Pol) vs Omonia (Cyp) Prediction & Betting tips
Legia Warsaw as it is alive and well. In the first qualifying round of the Champions League, the Polish champions got away happily. In the home game against Linfield, the Northern Irish champions, there was only a narrow 1-0 home win for the Legionisci. Only after the guests were sent off, Legia Warsaw scored a goal
In the second qualifying round there is now a clash between Legia Warsaw vs. Omonia Nicosia. As the odds of the best bookmakers show, the Legionisci is the favorite in the local Wojska Polskiego Stadium.
The Cypriot champions only bought their ticket against FC Ararat-Armenia in extra time in the final qualifying round. Whether Omonia Nicosia can master the difficult away hurdle in Warsaw remains uncertain for the time being. Most recently, the clovers from Nicosia completed their first game of the season in the domestic league and only played a draw.
The dress rehearsal before the qualifying game against Legia Warsaw was wasted. It is quite possible that this qualifying round will end for the Cypriot representatives. Even if the Poles did not deliver the best performance recently, we see Legia Warsaw against Omonia Nicosia as favorites and find a prediction on the Legionisci to be recommended.
Legia Warsaw:
Aleksandar Vukovic got away happily in the first qualifying round of the Champions League. The Legionisci coach already had a major flaw in his international record with the EL damper against FC Dudelange in the 2018/19 season. A defeat against the Northern Irish champions would hardly have been bearable with Legia Warsaw’s clear favorite role.
Although the Legionisci was seen as a big favorite, there was only one very narrow home win at the home game against Linfield. The Polish champion prevailed against the strongly defending Linfield only in the majority. Edge scored the goal to make it 1-0 in the 82nd minute. On Wednesday evening, the Legionisci are now facing a comparatively equal opponent.
In the match against Linfield there was a lack of attacking power. Despite 60% possession of the ball and 20 attempts to shoot, it remained a narrow home win. If you consider that the cup match in the Puchar Polski 2020/21 was won 6-1 against GKS Belchatow, the narrow result against the Northern Irish was surprising.
The international Legionisci competition may not come in handy. Legia has repeatedly had problems on the international stage in recent years and was unable to underpin the strong national performances.
Vukovic will have to complain about four failures in the home game against Omonia Nicosia. Among them José Kanté, who shot the Legionisci into the next round in the most recent qualifying round. The 41-year-old Legia trainer is expected to build on the same starting eleven as he did in the away win against Rakow (2-1) on the weekend.
Omonia Nicosia:
Omonia Nicosia benefited from the end of the season in Cyprus last season. The shamrocks secured in the championship playoffs the 21st championship in the club’s history, tied with Anorthosis. The new season started rather less pleasantly for the green-whites from Nicosia. At the season opener last weekend there was a 2-2 draw against Paphos.
Already in the first qualifying round against FC Ararat-Armenia, which was also the first competitive game of the new season, Omonia Nicosia struggled. Only in extra time was the Cypriot champions able to prevail against the Armenian representative after Thiago Santos won.
Compared to the Polish champions, Omonia Nicosia’s squad is manageable. To make matters worse, the Cypriots will not appear in the best cast on Wednesday evening. Coach Henning Berg will have to do without players like Kakoullis, Ramirez and Papoulis.
There will be only minimal changes compared to the starting XI from the last qualifying round. For the injured Kakoullis, 19-year-old Tzionis will most likely slip into the starting line-up. In the premier class there have been six defeats in the last nine away games.
