Les Herbiers vs Lens Prediction & Betting tips
The first quarter final of the Coupe de France has two surprising participants: Les Herbiers Vendée Football and Racing Club de Lens. Les Herbiers is 14th in the Championnat National and Lens is a division higher, the Ligue 2, also fourteenth. Is Les Herbiers also surprised again this week, or does the cup fairy tale keep it up?
Les Herbiers :
Of all the teams that are still active in the biggest cup tournament in France, Les Herbiers had the easiest way to the quarter finals. It was only in the previous round that the team faced an opponent of size in Auxerre and it was in that match that the team of Stéphane Masala showed the best football of the season.
After appointing Masala on January 16 of this year, the team has not lost yet, but the last two games were tied at 0-0. Against Rodez, the then number one of the Championnat National was a neat result, but last weekend against Boulogne, the number twelve, that result was less memorable.
To achieve a lap in the Coupe de France, Lens will have to be scored. If your top scorer, Ambroise Gboho, has scored only six times in the competition, you can expect an awkward match. With two goals in five cup games in the last two seasons, including in the previous round against Auxerre, Gboho does not perform much better in the Coupe de France, but to date it is sufficient. If Gboho knows how to share some freedom with Lens, he could easily become the hero of Les Herbiers.
Lens:
With a 0-1 home defeat against Clermont, Lens experienced a poor dress rehearsal for perhaps the most important game of the season. In the Ligue 2, Lens has thirty points after 27 games and with that the team is at the bottom of the middle part at a comfortable six points of the relegation zone and miles away from the places that entitle to (participation in playoffs) promotion.
Sang et Or was last season on an unprecedented exciting final day of the competition still pretty fourth of the Ligue 2 and therefore just missed promotion to the highest level. This season it all does not work at Lens, but a spot in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France could save the season.
The man who would have to enter that place in the semi-finals looks like Cristian López. The Spanish attacker scored sixteen league goals for Lens last season, but this season, with eight goals in the Ligue 2 so far, it is a little less. With six goals in four cup games, however, the Spaniard still occasionally shows his form, something that could turn him into a cult hero on Tuesday evening with Lens fans.
