Lille vs Angers Prediction & Betting tips
The recently completed coaching change at Paris St. Germain is currently making the headlines in French club football. Mauricio Pochettino, the new coach and Tuchel’s successor, was recently introduced to the series champion. The Argentine will be judged by the greatest possible goals, which means nothing more than that the former Tottenham manager was brought in to win the Champions League.
While the titles at national level went to the capital with great regularity and sovereignty in recent years, one or the other team is preparing to thwart the phalanx of the star ensemble in 2020/21. After 17 match days, two teams ranked ahead of the reigning title holder. Both clubs are also in action on Wednesday evening. Before the game of second place Lille against Angers, the odds are relatively clear in the direction of the hosts.
Incidentally, this assessment is not really surprising, because coach Christophe Galtier’s team has been unbeaten in the league since the beginning of November and has so far been particularly convincing in their own stadium. Six of the nine home games were won, which is why the prognosis of another three for the home side between Lille and Angers is definitely close.
The guests from the west of the country should not be completely underestimated either, especially since the black and whites, currently ninth in the table in Ligue 1, have so far played a surprisingly good season and have already won four abroad. Nevertheless, the existing quality between Lille and Angers speaks for a tip on the home team.
Lille :
Lille OSC has had a brilliant season so far, both on the international stage and in the domestic league. In a Europa League group with Celtic Glasgow, AC Milan and Sparta Prague, for example, the French came second and only lost one of the six preliminary round games. Things are going even better in Ligue 1, where the Galtier-Elf can currently even dream of the fifth championship title in the club’s history.
After 17 match days, the “Great Danes” are in second place, level on points with leaders Olympique Lyon. The fact that only one match was lost is particularly impressive. On the other hand there are ten wins and six draws. With twelve goals conceded, last year’s fourth also has the second best defense in the country. The 31 marked hits can also be seen very well.
The fact that on Wednesday evening everything boils down to the fact that a prognosis for the home win between Lille and Angers will pay off is also related to the outstanding home strength. No league competitor has collected more points at home than “Les Dogues”. In nine encounters at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy there were six successes and three points. The only four conceded goals are also absolute top value in Ligue 1.
In order to push the odds on the favorites up a little between Lille and Angers, it is quite an option to bet that the home side will already be ahead at halftime. The OSC was already leading after 45 minutes in five home games. Only Lyon and Bordeaux were able to beat goalkeeper Maignan before the break in Lille.
In terms of personnel, coach Galtier’s team is also looking very good. After a game break of around two weeks, all service providers are likely to be ready for action. Because the promising offensive talents Bamba, Ikoné, David and Weah were all in good shape before Christmas, the coach was even able to afford the luxury of leaving the top scorer (seven goals), Burak Yilmaz, on the bench from the start. Many changes compared to the 3-2 win in Montpellier on December 23rd are therefore not to be expected.
Angers :
For six years now, Angers has been an integral part of the top division in France. While the black and whites have generally held solid places in the secured midfield since their promotion in 2015, the view is further upwards this season.
The team of coach Stephane Moulin, who has swung the scepter with the West French since 2011, has already scored 27 points in the season so far. At the moment, only one point is missing from the fifth placed Olympique Marseille, which they even defeated 2-1 just before Christmas. In the ninth home game, SCO celebrated their fourth three.
Things are going a little better away. Away from home, Angers only needed eight matches to also have four wins. Among other things, the black and whites also won 2-1 at Champions League participants Stade Rennes. The two defeats at Paris St. Germain (1: 6) and in Montpellier (1: 4) were very clear, which in our opinion should be taken into account for the upcoming match in Lille.
Nevertheless, the self-confident underdog pays off at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. To do this, however, you need to improve your own defensive behavior, because even 26 goals are ultimately too many to climb into the top six of Ligue 1 in the long term. Also interesting: in four of five games in which Angers was behind at break in 2020/21, you left the field as a loser after the final whistle.
