Lyon vs Lille Prediction & Betting tips
The number two of the rankings in their own stadium against the number last, on paper one could expect an easy win for the home team. Will Lille get further problems or will points be scored again?
Lyon :
After losing against PSG in September, Bruno Génésio’s team is now unbeaten for eight games in a row, putting Olympique Lyon second on goal-balance. Of the previous five games, no less than three were won 5-0 (remarkably enough all times outside of their own stadium) and no countergames were even cashed in. Earlier this season, the team was already well on the scoring of goals and giving away goals was too easy, but Génésio now seems to have that leak.
According to the leading French sports newspaper L’Equipe, Memphis Depay was the player of the past weekend. The only 23-year-old striker took his team, in which captain Nabil Fekir was missing due to illness, at hand and was largely responsible for another monster victory. Four shots on goal fired the Dutchman, of which two were already in the first half against the ropes. In the remainder of the game, the attacker was still looking for his third, but partly because he was switched early, it did not happen. Depay is clearly flourishing again in France after his failed adventure in Manchester and if he continues like this, there is still a bright future ahead of him.
Lille:
Pandora’s box does not want to close for the club from Lille; for the second time in a row, there was no chance at all and even without Marcelo Bielsa, the team will play aimlessly. The team does manage to pass the ball, but the team does not get much further. On visiting Montpellier, the team where Fernando da Cruz was on the bench as an interim coach last weekend already lost 3-0 after half an hour and in the second half Lille had nothing to bring. As an additional damper Anwar El-Ghazi also fell out early with an injury, so the misery in Lille has only increased.
More than 55 million euros Marcelo Bielsa could spend last summer on players such as Thiago Maia, Luiz Araújo, Nicolas Pépe, Kévin Malcuit, Thiago Mendes and Edgar Ie, players who are the core of the swaying Lille this season. Bielsa is known for determining which players the club gets (for that reason he left after only two days at Lazio Rome) but this season seems to have gone very wrong. “I have never seen a bag of money make a goal,” said Johan Cruijff once, something that once again proves to be true at Lille this season.
