Mainz vs Dortmund Prediction & Betting tips
Banging in Dortmund! After the 1: 2 defeat against Werder Bremen on the last match day, the BVB separated from coach Peter Bosz. The Dutchman, who was only signed on by Ajax Amsterdam in the summer, crashed after a furious start to the season in the table, whereupon the responsible finally pulled the ripcord. Like his predecessors Thomas Tuchel and Jürgen Klopp Bosz said goodbye to a match against Werder Bremen from the coach chair of BVB. Now Peter Stöger, who was recently released by 1. FC Köln, takes over the battered giant. Stöger should now get some points before the winter break and then start a recovery in the second half. The new coach of BVB does not have much time to initiate a turnaround. The first test is already waiting next Tuesday for Peter Stöger. Borussia Dortmund has to travel to Mainz and wants to score points there. The Mainz experienced through a pretty mixed season so far and are therefore against the current crisis club from Dortmund outsider.
The results of the last five direct duels between these two clubs speak for BVB. The final clash ended in a 1-1 draw in Mainz, but the four games before all went to Borussia Dortmund.
Mainz :
The season 2017/18 runs for Mainz 05 rather poor. The team of coach Sandro Schwarz is with 16 points from the 15 previous games on the 14th place in the table. The distance to the relegation place, which currently occupies the SC Freiburg, is only a measly point. Even Werder Bremen is only two points away on the penultimate place. Everything is possible in the table at the moment. In a dry spell, Mainz 05 could slip quickly on the relegation ranks, in a run they could promptly climb a few places up. Wolfsburg is still with 18 points in eleventh place. Mainz last brought in a highly competitive game a 2-2 draw against the current second RB Leipzig. After two defeats earlier against Augsburg and Freiburg this was a good result for self-confidence.
On the defensive, the team of Sandro Schwarz has some problems. Only Borussia Mönchengladbach, Freiburg and 1. FC Köln conceded more goals than Mainz 05. Mainz 05 is relatively a home strong team. From eight games in their own stadium, the team brought four wins and a draw. In the stranger, however, is still no win to book – only three draws in seven away games reach the Mainz.
Like already against RB Leipzig Mainz against Dortmund must give up on two important players. Topscorer Yoshinori Muto, who has scored three goals and posted two more, can not play due to a back injury. Even captain Stefan Bell will probably not be used in central defense. He is currently suffering from a flu infection. The long-term injured Rene Adler and Karim Onisiwo will not be back on the field until 2018.
Dortmund:
As already mentioned, the Dutchman Peter Bosz was relieved of his coaching and Peter Stöger presented as a new BVB coach. Bosz was installed by Borussia Dortmund after a terrific season with Ajax Amsterdam, where they lost among others in the final of the Europa League against Manchester United. The BVB started with six wins and a draw after seven matchdays famously in the new season and was at that time as an absolute title candidate for the championship. But with a defeat against RB Leipzig on Matchday 8, the team got into a downward spiral. Cross-competition BVB succeeded in the next 13 games only one victory and that in the DFB Cup against 1. FC Magdeburg. As a result, Dortmund had to cancel in the Champions League and also in the championship slipped the big club with only 22 points from 15 games to seventh place. The final victory was sealed by Peter Bosz with a 1: 2 defeat against Werder Bremen on the final day of the match. The former Cologne coach Peter Stöger will now swing the scepter in Dortmund. He initially got a short-term contract until the end of the season and should turn around as soon as possible.
As with his former club Stöger meets in Dortmund on a large military hospital. Lukasz Piszczek, Erik Durm, Gonzalo Castro, Sebastian Rode, Mario Gotze, Marco Reus, Maximilian Philipp and Jacob Bruun Larsen make up the long injury list of BVB. With a very decimated squad, the Neo-Trainer is faced with difficult tasks this year. The home game against Mainz 05 on Tuesday is followed by a home game against Hoffenheim and at the end of the year the hit in the second round of the DFB Cup against Bayern Munich.
