Mannheim vs Eintracht Frankfurt Prediction & Betting tips
In the present time, friendships of various fan groups in German professional football have become rather rare. One of the few exceptions is SV Waldhof Mannheim and Eintracht Frankfurt. Admittedly, it has to be stated that only the ultras of both clubs maintain a friendship and that there is certainly a large number in the fan camp of the clubs, which can not do much with the alleged ally.
Nonetheless, the sympathy statements were made clear, for example, by the fact that some Frankfurt residents have been attending Mannheim’s regional league duels against archenemy Kickers Offenbach for years, or Waldhöfer not only once expressed their support for the SGE with various banners. On Sunday afternoon there will be no friends, at least on the pitch. Then it comes in the first round of the DFB Cup for a direct duel.
Mannheim plays against Frankfurt according to the odds as a clear outsider in the game, although the clash certainly holds a certain potential for surprise. This is, of course, the home strength of the third division, which is also unbeaten for 26 competitive matches.
On the other hand, but also to the fact that the Hesse already have to complete their third competitive match within ten days and only on Thursday evening in the Europa League qualification in contemplative Liechtenstein had to compete. We would therefore take a distance from a tip on the outcome of the match between Mannheim and Frankfurt and instead provide a balanced first half as a basis for our betting recommendation.
Experienced FIFA referee Felix Brych will ring the eagerly anticipated match at the Carl-Benz stadium on Sunday afternoon at 14:30 pm. As in the previous year, does the SGE fail sensationally at the opening hurdle?
Mannheim:
It has been 16 years since SV Waldhof Mannheim was represented in the first round of the DFB Cup. At that time, the blue-blacks failed against Union Berlin and adopted indefinitely by the big German football stage.
2018/2019 did, however, achieve the impressive return in two respects. As champions of the Regionalliga Südwest Waldhöfer rose in the third league and as inferior finalist in the Baden Regional Cup against Karlsruher SC (3: 5) qualified the former Bundesliga club finally again for the first main round of the Cup.
The start into the adventure “Third League” was on the bottom line quite positive. After four games, Bernhard Trares’s team has a solid six points and is still unbeaten. After three points at the opening in Chemnitz, at home against Meppen and in Magdeburg, the ban was broken last Monday by a 4-0 against 1860 Munich.
Much more important than the ninth place in the intermediate classification, however, is the outstanding run of the East Mannheim townspeople, because for now 26 point games, the sports club from the Rhine-Neckar region has not lost. Consequently, the self-confidence has reached the boiling point and the confidence to be able to cheat the house-high favorite, huge.
We go with this assessment d’accord and really trust the third division to realize a surprise against perhaps tired-looking Adlerträger. But because we do not want to commit ourselves to a home win between Mannheim and Frankfurt for a forecast, we focus on the halftime situation.
In two of the previous four third-division games with SVW stake it was tied to the break. More importantly: The Trares team was never behind after 45 minutes.
In addition, the Mannheimer presented defensively very stable, so Keeper Scholz in 360 minutes only twice had to reach behind him. Home is the newcomer from Mannheim even without a clean sheet. So it is quite possible that the outsider can keep the draw as long as possible in the cup as well …
From a personal point of view Coach Trares has to do without Bouziane, Gouaida, Just, Raffael Korte and Weissenfels. Serious changes are after the strong 4: 0 victory against 1860 Munich, which should have given the Mannheimers an additional push, but not to be expected anyway. The priority will be on work against the ball. The longer Waldhof holds the draw, the greater the chances of progressing in the second round, which last succeeded in the 2002/2003 season.
Frankfurt:
We write August 18, 2018. Eintracht Frankfurt starts as the reigning defending champion in the new DFB Pokal season and will meet for the start of the fourth division SSV Ulm 1846. In the second competitive match under Adi Hütter (0: 5 in the Supercup against Bayern) embarrassed Hessen to the bone and must strike early after an embarrassing 1: 2 defeat the sails.
If it comes to the Austrian coach, then the elimination against a blatant outsider should remain an isolated case. Nevertheless, the Europa League semi-finalist 2018/2019 is of course forewarned, if on Sunday afternoon the not to be underestimated away game at the Carl-Benz Stadium is on the program.
Hope for a befitting success in the third division makes this season at least the fact that the SBU has already collected more match practice than last year. All three previous Europa League qualifiers have been won. After two lackluster 2-1 successes against the Estonian representative Flora Tallinn, Eintracht showed on Thursday evening, the FC Vaduz clearly the limits.
With 5: 0 won the Hütter protégés in Liechtenstein and showed thereby a vastly improved performance compared to the mentioned Tallinn games. Already after 40 minutes, a preliminary decision was made at the score of 3: 0 for last year’s Lieutenant of the Bundesliga. The return leg next Thursday will therefore only have a statistical character and the Red, Black and White can concentrate exclusively on the DFB Cup.
Despite the difference in quality compared to the SV Waldhof, we would refrain to give a hint between Mannheim and Frankfurt that the Bundesliga club already in the first half provides for clear conditions. Much more is to be expected that Kostic, Paciencia, Rebic and Co. in a contested initial phase, the teeth and possibly pay tribute to the travel strains of the Europa League.
It should also be kept in mind that the surprise team from last season were also struggling against Flora Tallinn, who are about the same level as a solid third division side, and drew in both games at halftime.
2018/2019, the Hesse also turned out to be late starters. In 14 of 34 Bundesliga games with SGE participation, there would have been a counter for both teams at the time of the break.
With the exception of the two injured Frederik Rönnow and Djibril Sow all men are available. For Sebastian Rode, however, a start-up assignment could come too soon. Things are different for Kevin Trapp, who is in the consolation goal after his re-commitment before a new comeback.
In general, coach Hütter announces a certain rotation, which could also have a negative impact on the flow of the game, increasing the likelihood that Mannheim and Frankfurt are predicting a balanced first half.
