Marseille vs Monaco Prediction & Betting tips
Since 2017, both Olympique Marseille and AS Monaco have scored in every meeting between the two clubs. Can we expect another goal from both teams on Saturday?
Marseille:
Last Wednesday, Olympique Marseille went to a visit to Manchester City 3-0 and therefore the European season is now definitely over for the team of André Villas-Boas and the focus can definitely be on the Ligue 1. Just like last season, the team of Villas-Boas to be best of the rest behind Paris Saint-Germain, but with the Parisians not being as unapproachable in Ligue 1 this season as in previous years, more than a second place could be possible this year.
Although Villas-Boas has a more than excellent vanguard with Dario Benedetto, Dmitri Payet and Florian Thauvin, l’OM is somewhat disappointing in the offensive area this season. Seventeen goals were scored in eleven league matches and in the Champions League, the Marseille team only scored twice in six matches. However, with seven goals in the four most recent matches, the Marseilles team are currently in a great series and given that the Villas-Boas team failed to score this season in just one league match, the vanguard of l’OM seems on paper to be a scare to any competitor in Ligue 1.
Monaco:
On a visit to Lille, AS Monaco suffered a painful loss of points last weekend due to a 2-1 defeat. Halfway the score it was still 0-0, but two goals against early in the second half, Niko Kovac’s team could not recover. Pietro Pellegri’s connection goal in the ninetieth minute came too late to bring back the tension and so the Monegasken missed a golden opportunity for a place in the provisional top three. Nevertheless, with 23 points from thirteen games, Kovac’s team is doing well in the sub-top of the Ligue 1.
All in all, the excellent performances of the Monegasken this season are quite surprising given the fact that young talents are often given the opportunity. With the nineteen-year-old Benoît Badiashile and the 22-year-old Axel Disasi, a very young duo takes center stage in the defense and in the front, youngsters like William Geubbels and Pietro Pellegri, both only nineteen, also get the necessary playing time from Kovac. This is partly due to the fact that the Monegasken have to deal with many injuries and suspensions this season, but on the field the youngsters also show that they can handle the level.
