Mattersburg vs Altach Prediction & Betting tips
The interest in the Austrian Cup final last Friday was huge. The game between Red Bull Salzburg and Underdog Austria Lustenau was broadcast live in 40 countries. There was no sensation and the bull elf defended the title win. As a result of this, the lower play-off, which begins on Tuesday, is once again greatly enhanced. The runners-up also still have chances for an international ticket.
After the division of points, the lower play-off is extremely balanced. The six teams are separated by only four counters, so a strong start is all the more important. Among other things, there will be a duel between Mattersburg and Altach on Tuesday evening.
The lower play-off will henceforth be played on a Tuesday-Saturday basis, while the six teams from the master play-off will be on Wednesday and Sunday. There will be plenty of Austrian football in the coming days. The tip category soccer Austria should be favored to keep up to date.
When looking at the current table after the division of points, it can be seen that the hosts from Burgenland are currently three points behind the westernmost Bundesliga club in Austria. For Altach, losing is forbidden in the empty poplar stadium in order to maintain the lead. Bookmakers offer balanced odds on the 1-X-2 market in a duel between Mattersburg and Altach. A comprehensive analysis of this duel can be found in the following lines, the game starts on Tuesday at 17:30 p.m.
Mattersburg:
After the mode became known for the rest of the season, Mattersburg head coach Franz Ponweiser described it as a “slaughter”. From June 2nd to July 4th there are no fewer than ten games on the program. The precarious situation in the lower play-off results in a difficult balancing act. The relegation battle is omnipresent, but qualification for Europe is also within reach.
After the long break, the teams were only granted a single friendly match, which Mattersburg played against Wolfsberg and had to admit defeat 0-3. The conclusion was therefore not satisfactory. The own exploitation of opportunities left a lot to be desired, while the SVM made life difficult again with simple defensive mistakes.
Lack of stability on the defensive? This is not a new finding, because even before the break of almost ten weeks, the defensive was the major weak point in the game of the Burgenland. Mattersburg, who has been back in the Bundesliga for five years now, conceded no less than 52 goals in the basic round in the 22 games. With the exception of the SKN Sankt Pölten (54 goals conceded), this means the second worst defense in the entire league.
Usually, home games in football should be an advantage. In times of ghost games the “twelfth man” is missing and the first impressions from Germany confirm that the home advantage is significantly devalued.
A home advantage was not discernible in the Burgenland this season anyway. In the basic round of the Austrian Bundesliga, the SVM celebrated only one win in eleven home games.
The Ponweiser team celebrated this only home win on the very first match day against TSV Hartberg, followed by ten games, of which Mattersburg left the grass eight times as a loser. In view of these facts, a bet on the home side is by no means recommended.
Altach:
A look at our table service betting base shows that Vorarlberg’s Bundesliga club Cashpoint SCR Altach, together with Austria Vienna, are number one in the lower play-off. For a long time, the Pastoor team was at the bottom of the table. Started with great ambitions, several setbacks had to be coped with. Head coach Alex Pastoor has already been sharply criticized by many fans.
A new coaching change would have been rated positively in many places, but this has long been off the table. Towards the end of autumn it went absolutely as desired. Driven by ex-DFB team player Sidney Sam, Altach played great and celebrated three victories en suite at the end.
Even after the winter break, Altach made a strong showing and scored another five points in the first three games. In many places, the weak start to the season had already been fought over, otherwise the upper play-off would have been possible. Only in the last game of the basic round Altach had to give up again – at Flyeralarm Admira it suffered a 0-2 defeat. However, Altach almost outnumbered the entire match, after thoughtless running out of goalkeeper Martin Kobras including the emergency brake.
Despite the long, precarious table situation, Alex Pastoor was not deterred and stuck to his game idea. Fighting football, as can often be seen in the relegation battle, did not exist at Altach, further attempts were made to achieve success through play.
Especially with increasing fitness at Sidney Sam, the quality increased enormously. Sam is the linchpin of the offensive game and his side players are much more confident in his presence.
In the only friendly match, Altach celebrated a 3-1 win against cup finalist and local rival Austria Lustenau. A performance where Pastoor complained about the lack of speed, but once again emphasized the playful aspects positively. Long-term injured captains Philipp Netzer and Marco Meilinger return through the long break. Except for goalkeeper Martin Kobras (to be replaced by youngster Ozegovic), Alex Pastoor can draw on unlimited resources.
