Monterrey vs Liverpool Prediction & Betting tips
In the semi-finals of the World Cup for club teams in Qatar, Vincent Janssen’s Monterrey will compete against Virgil van Dijk, Gini Wijnaldum and Divock Origi in Liverpool. The English are of course the towering favorite at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.
Monterrey:
Monterrey won the CONCACAF Champions League earlier this year and hopes to make history on Wednesday evening by being the first Mexican club to reach the final of the World Championship for club teams. In the previous round, the blues and whites settled 3-2 with Al Sadd from Qatar, the team of coach Xavi, in a true goal-scoring event. The Mexicans dropped quite a few stitches, especially in the back, but thanks to goals from Leonel Vangioni, Rogelio Funes Mori and Carlos Rodriguez, they were still at the longest end.
Thanks to last weekend’s victory over Al Sadd, Monterrey was able to maintain her unbeaten series of fourteen games in a row. The team of coach Antonio Mohamed did not go further than the eighth place during the regular competition, but is doing well in the play-offs for the Mexican national title. At the end of this month, Monterrey can compete with America for the Apertura, the title for the first half of the season. The team is counting on the experience of players such as Dorlan Pabon, Celso Ortiz, Funes Mori and Vangioni. All of them are players who did not really get to grips with in Europe, but on the other side of the ocean are doing very well. Former Tottenham Hotspur flop Vincent Jansen could also be added to that list, but the Dutch striker is not fit and should probably also miss out on the squatter against Liverpool.
Liverpool:
The World Cup for club teams is not very highly regarded in Europe, but Liverpool has nevertheless traveled to Qatar with a strong selection. The English Premier League has no real winter break, so trainer Jürgen Klopp has the opportunity to enjoy some warm sunshine with his men before they continue their hunt for their first English league title since 1990.
Liverpool therefore approaches this World Cup for club teams as a sort of refined training camp. Klopp seems to be planning a lot of rotation and has therefore deliberately chosen not to spare anyone for the meeting with Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening, in which The Reds will play with their Under 23-team. Permanent reserves such as Divock Origi, Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri may hope to play against Monterrey. Georgino Wijnaldum and Virgil van Dijk are both doubtful cases and could be spared.
