MTK Budapest vs Honved Prediction & Betting tips
The ball is rolling again in Hungary! This weekend, most of the teams are already playing their second matchday in the Hungarian House of Lords. Only Puskas and Honved Budapest have not yet kicked off the season. After a positive case at Puskas, the match scheduled last Sunday was canceled.
Honved Budapest will kick off the 2020/21 season in the Hungarian Nemzeti Bajnoksag I with the city derby against MTK Budapest. In contrast to Honved Budapest, MTK Budapest has already completed one match. At the beginning of the season, the blue-whites won a point in the “Örökrangadó” derby against last year’s champion Ferencvaros.
If both teams have prepared for the summer, the MTK Budapest vs. Honved Budapest hardly understand the odds on a home win. While the guests were doing a mixed season preparation, MTK Budapest won five test matches with a total of 17 goals.
After the strong performance against Ferencvaros, we think a prognosis for the home side in the upcoming city derby between MTK Budapest and Honved Budapest is highly recommended.
MTK Budapest:
In the 2018/19 season, MTK Budapest surprisingly relegated from the Hungarian upper house. For the 23-time Hungarian champion it was the third relegation in the last ten years. Under the German trainer Michael Boris, however, the promotion to the NB I was successful. Now the blue-whites want to find their old strength again and have made a solid start to the season.
On the very first day of Nemzeti Bajnoksag I, MTK Budapest saw the explosive derby against arch rivals Ferencvaros. The home side was able to take the momentum from the strong preparation for the season with them and won a well-deserved point win against the previous year’s champion. The interim leadership could not be defended.
In the preparation for the season, the offensive of the blue-whites was particularly impressive. The attack department of the Boris-Elf scored a total of 17 goals in five test matches, including the dress rehearsal against Ujpest Budapest, a city and league competitor from the NL I.
Last season MTK Budapest remained unbeaten at the Hidegkuti Nandor Stadium. The blue-whites had a home record of 11-3-0 and averaged just over two goals per home game. Whether MTK Budapest will follow up on this in NB I remains to be seen over the course of the season. MTK will not have to do without spectators entirely.
The Hungarian government allows football games with spectators under strict conditions. The most recent derby between MTK Budapest vs. Ferencvaros a total of 4,445 visitors in the stadium. If the blue-whites tie in with the latest performance at the “Örökrangadó” derby, a home win against Honved will be quite realistic.
Honved Budapest:
Honved Budapest could not kick off the season in NB I yet. The match on the first matchday was canceled for Honved Budapest after a player tested positive against Puskas. The Kispest will kick off the 2020/21 season at city rivals MTK Budapest. As the odds comparison of the betting base shows, Honved is seen as a slight outsider.
In contrast to its city rivals, Honved Budapest has so far completed a manageable preparation for the season. For the Kispest there were only two wins in the six test matches. In total, the black and red conceded twelve goals in six games – so an average of two goals per friendly. If the defense remains as vulnerable as before at the start of the season, it will probably only be a matter of time before the doorbell rings in Honved’s goal.
In the last season Honved was fifth in the table in the NB I. After the promising first half of the season, the Kispest buckled in the 2020 calendar year and only got 20 points in 17 second half games. It remains to be seen whether things will go better this season under coach Tamás Bódog. This weekend Bodog makes his debut as Honved’s head coach.
Last season, Honved Budapest won the Hungarian Cup, expanding the national trophy collection to 23. For the Kispest it was the first cup title since the 2008/09 season. This is the fourth time in a row that the group phase of an international competition is approached.
Last season was the end of the second qualifying round of the Europa League for Honved Budapest. In the next week, the black-reds from Budapest will play the qualifying game against Inter Turku. It is quite possible that the game will rotate accordingly. Honved trainer Bodog will not have to complain about any failures at the city derby against MTK.
