Mura (Slo) vs PSV (Ned) Prediction & Betting tips
After the titanic battle between Tadej Pogacar and Primoz Roglic in the last Tour de France, Slovenians can cycle by now, but can they also play football? We will receive an answer to that question on Thursday evening. PSV will then visit Mura, which hopes to reach the group stage of the Europa League for the very first time. The people of Eindhoven will have to be careful, because a mistake in Slovenia would immediately be fatal.
Mura:
Mura is of course not the most appealing opponent that PSV could have hit. Last season’s number four in the Slovenian Prva Liga has never been able to qualify for the Europa League main tournament in its eight-year history, and plays her home games in the tiny Fazanerija City Stadium (capacity: 3,782 seats).
Due to the Slovenian circumstances, the PSV players could therefore get the feeling that they have ended up at an amateur club, but the Eindhoven players would be wise not to underestimate Mura. In the previous round, the black and white gave the Danish number three AGF with a 3-0 victory, namely a lot of beating. In addition, the team of trainer Ante Simundza is currently in the lead in their own country, after last weekend managed to take the top match against Gorica 1-0. Of course, Mura is the obvious underdog on Thursday night, but the Slovenes are in shape and have nothing to lose.
PSV Eindhoven:
Since this summer, a real culture change has been taking place at PSV. Chairman Toon Gerbrands and technical director John de Jong gave the new coach Roger Schmidt carte blanche to introduce his Gegenpressing in the Philips Stadium. The fact that the red and white still have to get used to this new way of playing is evident from the stiff preparation and the two difficult victories in the Eredivisie against FC Groningen (1-3) and Emmen (2-1). Goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo in particular had to pay for it, after he made an error in both duels.
Mvogo in particular is now under a magnifying glass, although you can see that the boy is indeed a good keeper. ED reporter Rik Elfrink already made the comparison with Heurelho Gomes, who became a club icon after a difficult start. The real problem is that PSV failed to decide the game early against both FC Groningen and FC Emmen. In that respect, attracting goalgetter Eran Zahavi could well be a bull’s eye, although I don’t think Schmidt will let the experienced Israeli make his debut in the starting line-up on Thursday evening. However, he will undoubtedly start with a strong starting eleven, as a defeat on Slovenian soil would mean another season without European football. PSV cannot afford that at all, with the debacle against the Croatian Osijek three years ago still fresh in their minds.
