Nantes vs Marseille Prediction & Betting tips
Almost two weeks ago, Olympique Marseille separated from Andre Villas-Boas with immediate effect. Previously, the 43-year-old Portuguese, who took over the scepter at l’OM in summer 2019, spoke publicly about the differences of opinion within the club and announced his resignation. Since then, Marseille has been under the management of interim solution Nasser Larguet.
During the week, the Phoceens celebrated a victory in Ligue 1 for the first time under the French with Moroccan roots. This also ended the ongoing negative series in the French House of Lords. Although l’OM didn’t exactly show the best performance against the guests from Nice, the three points at the Stade Vélodrome were brought over the finish line.
Nantes :
Just a few weeks ago, Raymond Domenech, a former French national coach, was on the sidelines of Nantes, but after eight competitive games the 69-year-old had to pack his bags again. A short time later, the Canaris introduced Antoine Kombouare as their successor.
The 57-year-old is returning to his old place of work as a trainer for the first time, albeit only as a temporary solution. In the last week Kombouare celebrated a successful coaching debut and ended the negative series of Nantes. Nantes won against SCO Angers for the first time since November 2020 in Ligue 1.
For the time being, the Canaris were able to minimize the gap to a non-relegation place, only one point separates FC Nantes from their table neighbors from Lorient. Because the relegation competitor currently has one more game in the account than Nantes, the Canaris can even leave the red zone on their own.
In the Stade de la Beaujoire, however, the Canaris have to end the current negative series. Across all competitions, FC Nantes have remained without a win in the last ten home games, most recently there have been three defeats in a row. Including the cup debacle against Lens, where the Canaris conceded a total of four goals.
With a home record of 2-6-4, Nantes is currently the fourth weakest home team in Ligue 1. How the second half of the season will develop under the new head coach Kombouare remains to be seen, at least last week there were at least the right approaches to initiate a turnaround.
Marseille :
Less than two years ago, Andre Villas-Boas was seen as the new ray of hope at l’OM. The Portuguese was supposed to lead the Phocéens to their old strength and got the fullest trust from the board. After differences of opinion, the split was announced a few game days after the start of the second half of this season.
Villas-Boas justified his departure mainly with the miserable transfer policy and the disagreements with Pablo Longoria, the general manager at l’OM. Since then, Nasser Larguet has taken over the interim position with the Phoceens. In Ligue 1, Marseille remained without a win under Larguet three times in a row before they scored three points for the first time last matchday.
That win was booked during the week in the catch-up game against Nice. The Ligue 1 table sixth benefited mainly from the strong first half. After the break, there wasn’t much to cheer about in the second half, and in the final phase it even became dangerous again.
In a foreign country, l’OM has not had a win in Ligue 1 for a long time. The last time Marseille won an away game in the French House of Lords was in the first week of December 2020. Across all competitions, the Phoceens have had an away record of 1-3-5 since then, with the only away win in the Cup against Auxerre.
Although the Marseille offensive is promising, l’OM has scored “only” 32 goals in 24 games this season. So the Phocéens have even scored fewer goals than the table-16. from Strasbourg. Florian Thauvin had the largest share in the goal haul of the southern French.
The winger, who has meanwhile also been on the radar of the German record champions, has already recorded 14 scorer points (7 goals, 7 assists). Nevertheless, Thauvin was not considered by Larguet during the week, nor was Rongier and Germain. Instead, the Moroccan interim coach relied on players like Dieng, Khaoui and Gueye.
