Newport vs Brighton Prediction & Betting tips
During the week the two league cup finalists were determined, now the FA Cup is the focus of interest in the motherland of football. The world’s oldest cup competition is taken very seriously by all teams, but surprises are always the order of the day. There could be such a sensation in Wales in the duel between Newport and Brighton on Sunday evening.
This is a game between a fourth division (League Two) and a Premier League team. However, Newport has recently earned a reputation as a “giant killer”, was able to force Tottenham into a replay in 2017/18 and even celebrate a win against Leicester in 2018/19.
The Seagulls have been warned and the game will by no means be a sure-fire success for the eleven of Graham Potter. Brighton absolutely needs a sense of achievement after a true horror autumn. Rodney Parade starts on Sunday evening at 19:45 p.m.
The football England tip category this weekend provides many previews, betting analyzes and recommendations for the third main round of this year’s FA Cup.
Newport :
It was not until the 2013/14 season that the AFC Newport County was able to fix the return to paid football, after the club from Wales had been at home in lower-class leagues for over two decades. For the past eight years, the team has mostly been in the midfield of fourth-rate League Two. In the 2016/17 season, the team prevented the threatened relegation with a win on the last match day and interim coach Michael Flynn was confirmed as head coach. Even today, the now 40-year-old is still a trainer for the eleven from Wales.
This season the Flynn-Elf is a hot contender for promotion to League One. In terms of loss points, the team currently leads the League One table, because with a catch-up game in the backhand, Newport is only one point behind leaders Carlisle United. At times, Newport already had a comfortable lead on fourth place (the first three teams were promoted directly), but in the last few weeks things didn’t go as planned and the lead melted with every further game.
Only one of the last seven league games could Newport win. The top form at the start of the season (ten wins in 13 games) is long gone. In view of this development, a prediction on the underdog appears too risky on Sunday evening in the duel between Newport and Brighton. In particular, the team has no rhythm, because the last two league games had to be postponed. Newport was last used on Boxing Day.
As is well known, the cup has its own laws and in the recent past the club has been able to draw attention to itself several times. In particular, the atmosphere at the Rodney Parade was outstanding and whipped the underdog into surprises. The greatest success was undoubtedly the sensational 2-1 win against Leicester City two years ago. Leicester rotated only moderately, but still had to accept the embarrassing end. This success was not a flash in the pan, as Tottenham was forced into a replay the year before.
Without fan support, the team will be deprived of a great deal of strength and, coupled with the weak form of recent weeks, there will probably be no FA Cup miracle for the Welsh in 2021.
Brighton :
Last season Brighton & Hove Albion broke new ground. In the two Premier League years with head coach Chris Hughton, the tried and tested kick-and-rush was the order of the day. Successor Graham Potter wanted to see a team that looked for playful solutions.
This change in the system ensured that the games became much more attractive. On the scoreboard, however, there was no big jump, because basically the Seagulls delivered similarly to last season.
In the second year under Graham Potter no further development can be seen, but the team is in the middle of a relegation battle. Compared to last season, the Potter-Elf currently has six points less on the credit side. Overall, Brighton could only win two games of the season. The many point divisions (eight draws) let Brighton step on the spot. After all, the team is currently in 17th place and is therefore above the ominous line.
Nevertheless, Graham Potter has long been counted and many fans want a new impulse on the dugout. The players themselves showed in the last league game that they are still behind their head coach. Brighton took the lead against Wolverhampton Wanderers, but a little later had to follow a 1: 3 deficit. Despite the many setbacks in autumn 2020, the team showed morale and was actually able to equalize. This shows a slight increase in form, as Brighton only lost one of the last five league games.
However, sooner or later the Potter-Elf will need victories to get back into calmer waters. Relegation is of course top priority, but embarrassment against a fourth division team in the cup must be avoided at all costs.
In the duel between Newport and Brighton, the tip on the guests speaks for the fact that the Seagulls collected nine of 14 points on a foreign place this season. The team also fixed both wins of the season (Newcastle and Aston Villa) away from home. The trip to Wales is therefore not a disadvantage at all.
